Use Event Viewer to solve operating system faults

Computer System Administrators and general computer users may encounter system errors when operating their computers. Many of my friends are troubled by the inability to find the cause of the error and solve the problem. In fact, most of the system problems can be solved by using the built-in Event Viewer in Windows and appropriate network resources.

I. What can event viewer do?

Microsoft has integrated event viewer in Windows NT-based operating systems, including Windows 2000nt2003 2003. Event Viewer can do a lot of work, such as reviewing system events and storing system, security, and application logs.

System logs store information, warnings, or errors generated by the Windows operating system. By viewing such information, warnings, or errors, we can not only understand the configuration or successful running of a function, but also understand the failure of some functions of the system, or the cause of instability.

Security logs store information about whether the Audit Event is successful. By viewing this information, we can see whether the security audit result is successful or failed.

Application logs store information, warnings, or errors generated by applications. By viewing such information, warnings, or errors, we can see which applications are successfully running, which errors are generated, or which potential errors are generated. Program developers can use these resources to improve applications.

Click Start> Run, enter eventvwr, and click OK to open the event viewer.

View event details:

Select the log type (application, security, or system) in the tree structure on the left of Event Viewer. All logs of this type are displayed in the details pane on the right, double-click a log to view its details. in the log Properties window, we can see the event date, event occurrence source, type, ID, and detailed description of the event. This is the most important thing for us to find and solve errors.

Search events:

If there are too many events in the system, it will be difficult to find the events that actually cause system problems. In this case, we can use the event "filter" function to find the log we are looking.

Select the log type (application, security, or system) in the tree structure on the left, right-click View, and select filter ". LOG filter will start.

Select the event type, such as "error" and related event sources and categories, and click "OK ". Event Viewer performs a search and only displays events that meet these conditions.

Ii. Use the viewer to solve system problems

After finding the events that cause system problems, we need to find a solution to them. There are two ways to solve these problems: the Microsoft online technical support knowledge base and the Eventid.net website.

Microsoft online technical support knowledge base (KB ):

An article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base is composed of official Microsoft documents and technical articles written by MVP (Microsoft's most valuable expert). It mainly solves Microsoft Product problems and faults.

When the Bug and error-prone application points of Microsoft products are discovered, there will be a corresponding KB article to analyze this error solution.

The address of Microsoft Knowledge Base is: http://support.microsoft.com, in the "Search (Knowledge Base)" on the left of the web page to enter the relevant keywords for query, event source and ID information. Of course, entering keywords in the detailed description is also a good way. If there is an error number in the log, it is not a bad idea to enter this error number for query.
Eventid.net Website:

To query the solution for an error event, there is also a better solution: the Eventid.net website with the address www.eventid.net. This website is hosted by many Microsoft MVPs (most valuable experts) and contains solutions for almost all system events.

After logging on to the website, click the Search Events link to display the event Search page. Enter the Event ID and Event Source as prompted, and click the Search button. The Eventid.net system will find all relevant resources and solutions. Most importantly, it is completely free to enjoy these solutions. Of course, paying Eventid.net users can enjoy better services, such as directly accessing the Knowledge Base Article set for an event.

Other resources:

In fact, we can find a lot of useful resources in the network. You can refer to it when there is a system problem. For example, http://www.diyinside.com site "Microsoft news group FAQ" column, provides a lot of useful troubleshooting tips.

In addition, the Microsoft Chinese community (http://www.microsoft.com/china/community) provides online free technical support and regular expert chat, as long as a little utilization, can become a valuable resource to solve the problem of the system.

In general, the event log mechanism provided in Windows provides a quick way to identify system problems, official and third-party network resources allow us to quickly solve these problems. Through this article, we hope that readers can make full use of these resources and solve system problems in the future. Save time and money.
