VisionMobile published a report on the 2015.12 IoT megatarends (Six key Trends in the IoT developer Economy), and here are the notes for the report. 6. The hottest business model of the Internet of things
Value quadrant: In line with the evolution of business models.
The transformation of the Industrial Internet business model: The sales of industrial assets, typically with annual service contracts, to the manufacturers have assets, sales units are services. Today's IoT data makes 0 unplanned shutdowns, allowing vendors to take risks and make sales of value-added software and data services (such as capacity optimization)
The shift in smart home mode: The e-commerce model allows for hardware subsidies, such as Kindle mode. The internet of things extends the way e-commerce members and users are purchased outside of websites and mobile apps, and is embedded in every physical item.
Users get paid: From the sales of networked products such as smoke detectors, car data dongles, wearables, through bundled businesses to subsidize IoT devices (such as insurance, energy rebates) transfer. From user payments to users to get paid, through other sources of income to different devices to get more growth. For example, Nest's security rewards, smoke detectors and family insurance bundles, Nest's peak hour bonuses are exchanged for refunds by allowing energy providers to control the thermostat. Another example is Oscar health insurance, the Misfit Sports tracker bundled with health insurance, and for example networked automotive applications and services that connect based on the use of car insurance.
The popular business model of the Internet of things shifts from product sales to recurring revenue, from products to services. Product as a service, equipment as an e-commerce, insurance distribution channels, is worth observing the important business model.
