Microsoft Office provides organizations with an environment that the end user is familiar with to quickly create business applications. Building Office Business Applications provides organizations with a wide range of opportunities to edit customer relationship Management (CRM) systems, data predecessors that will be extracted from line-of-business applications, managed business intelligence reports, and many other possibilities.

Although Office development offers many valuable opportunities for organizations, it has previously challenged the development and deployment of these applications. Early versions of managed languages also drive the way you use Office to create applications.

It is often difficult to invoke a large number of Office API methods because it contains many parameters and most of the parameters are useless. The optional parameters feature of Visual Basic simplifies this, but developers who use the C # language will have to write a lot of useless initialization expressions or empty statements to fill in the required method signature parameters. If you are using Visual Basic, you will not be able to use the functionality of a lambda similar to C # 3.0 to provide an inline method when invoking the proxy.

In this experiment, you will see how the new features in Visual Studio 2010, C # 4.0, and Visual Basic 10 eliminate the problems mentioned in the preceding paragraphs. In addition, you will see some other powerful features that accelerate the development of other Office elements.

Goal

In this hands-on experiment, you will learn how to:

• Learn how new language features accelerate the creation of business entities

• Explore new language features that make it easier for business entities to interact with Excel

• Leverage new language features that support rapid interaction between Office programs

• Understand how the new build process simplifies the process of deploying Office applications to end users
