Actuate recently announced the acquisition of Quiterian, a Business analytics provider based in Barcelona, Spain. This allows actuate to focus on its data through predictive and socialized media analysis, and ultimately drive its business intelligence software product line through visualized data mining.

In a telephone interview, Information Weekly and senior vice president of Actuate Marketing, Nobby Akiha, and Quiterian's founder and CEO Josep Arroyo described the business strategy of the merged company.

To prepare for the arrival of a new era of large data, actuate wants to strengthen its analysis capabilities to meet large datasets. "That's why we think the recent acquisition of Quiterian has a lot of meaning," Akiha said. ”

As one of Spain's top analysis suppliers, Quiterian has more than 100 customers, including Ricoh, Orange, Madrid Metro, Vodafone and Volkswagen Finance.

Arroyo claims that his company has a 80% per cent market share, and many Spanish public transport operators are Quiterian customers.

Arroyo said: "We have all trains, subways, buses and other transportation." They generate a lot of data and we can send this information to the phone at 60,000 megabytes per hour. Therefore, we have a lot of experience in synthesizing data and can do advanced analysis. ”

Quiterian said the merger will soon produce a new product called Birt Analytics, which combines a set of Actuateone with Quiterian Analytics. In addition to business intelligence and data discovery, BIRT Analytics will provide data analysis, visualization, and messaging tools.

The Business Intelligence and Reporting Tool (BIRT) analysis obtained its name from the Birt project, a publicity achievement Actuate joined the Eclipse Foundation in 2004. According to Actuate, the project has more than 1.5 million development projects worldwide, providing a rich range of BI and reporting tools for client and Web applications.

Actuate the acquisition of Quiterian as the next step in the big data push. It is hoped that the Spanish company's predictive analytics and data mining capabilities enable Birt developers to create powerful new applications.

"We think this is a perfect combination of what we want to accomplish and provides added value to our customers," Akiha said. This synergy includes the front-end of an easy-to-use, Quiterian user and the ability to perform powerful analysis of data. "he added.

"We are happy because our culture and technology can be well combined," he said. We can provide a complete cloud computing large data platform, it has advanced analysis and high-performance. "said Mrs. Arroyo.

The initial version of BIRT Analytics does not introduce many new features, but will combine the performance of current actuate and Quiterian products.

"In addition to the features we already have, we will not bring any other specific features." However, we will have a complete integrated platform. Its completion is very fast, easy and large volume. Because we're talking about the billions of-dollar record from the unused source. "said Mrs. Arroyo.

Quiterian staff will immediately join Actuate and will remain in Barcelona. Arroyo will become vice president of Actuate BIRT Analytics and is responsible for the company's data mining and analysis strategy.

Merging with Quiterian is not Actuate's first acquisition. Less than three years ago, it acquired a foreign group headquartered in Toronto, a manufacturer of an online document management system.

"This allows us to track data in file files, extract information from customer statements and invoices," Akiha said. We look at big data with a development perspective. ”

"Actuate, based in Silicon Valley, Calif., has also formed partnerships with major data companies such as Cloudera, EMC, Hortonworks and pervasive. "he said.
