Analysis: Cloud standards Development Competition in the industry to promote cloud computing technology

The rise of cloud computing has greatly stimulated the IT leaders of many mainstream enterprises to actively engage in the standard development of solving cloud security and data compatibility issues.

But the early beginnings of cloud computing standards were like a car rally-everyone moving along the same track, but the cars were different.

With the growing ranks of the standardised army, the Cloud Standards User Committee, supported by IBM, became the latest member to join, and last month unveiled a list of their steering committees.

It is clear that enterprise users need cloud standards. But it is still unclear whether these efforts can push standards more efficiently or lead to conflicting standards.

All kinds of cloud standards organizations have a key attribute: they all belong to the enterprise-level buy-in. For example, the cloud Standard users committee includes Citibank, Costco Retail Group and Deere Company.

The ISO-Open Data Center Consortium, supported by Intel last year, includes BMW, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Marriott International, Shell and Disney Internet labs. The Alliance's Steering committee sits at an overseas company that includes beijing-based insurers-China life and all government telecoms companies-China Unicom.

Meanwhile, the list of members of the Cloud Security alliance includes Coca-Cola and fun.

"Our goal is to work with a wide range of institutions and companies," said Marvin Wheeler, chief strategist for the chairman of the Open Data Center Alliance and security firm Terremark.

Wheeler says standards that are promoted by multiple organizations do not create competition and conflict but complement each other. Ultimately, the overlap of efforts will help all organizations achieve their goals.

The Open Data Center Alliance is changing the cloud computing market with great power. The alliance says its members spend more than 100 billion dollars a year on IT spending, and some will transition to cloud computing.

The alliance is developing an "application model" that IT managers can use to negotiate with cloud vendors. The application model solves many problems that have plagued the user for a long time or hindered the user from receiving cloud technology.

For example, an application model is primarily designed to address problems caused by the lack of a unified approach to creating and abolishing virtual machines.

"How to start, stop, create and postpone virtual machines really shouldn't be a selling point for cloud vendors," said Andrew Figo, executive director of the Technical Advisory division at UBS, a financial services firm, and a member of the board. But these problems do bring us a lot of trouble, we have to use four different ways to deal with four different manufacturers.

North Carolina State State University is also a member of the Cloud standard users ' committee. "If we have only one organization to care about cloud standards, then it will make me more worried," says Sam Alvit, a former university. Alvit retired last month, but he will continue to be active and make his own efforts for the cloud and standardization business.

Alvit said the cloud market was so huge and varied that it needed different voices to help. Alvit also stressed that "there will be a concentrated process over time, and if all goes well, it will achieve satisfying results".
