In a report published by Cisco, it predicts that cloud computing will account for 76% of global data center traffic over the next 4 years. As more companies adapt to cloud computing technologies, these flows will include public cloud computing services. Software as a service will account for nearly 60% of cloud service traffic. Cisco also predicts that total data center traffic will grow by twice times, from 2013 's 3.1-kilobyte (1-gigabyte-byte equals 1 billion TB) to 2018 's 8.6-gigabyte, with an annual growth rate of at least 23%.

Of course, global cloud service flows are growing faster than global data center traffic. Cloud services accounted for 54% of global data center traffic in 2013, and the ratio rose to 76% per cent in 2018. The data center traffic in Cisco reports includes data center-users, data centers-data centers, and data flow within the datacenter.

Cloud computing services have clearly tilted to the public cloud service. The annual growth rate of public cloud service flows is 33%. By 2018, the share of public cloud services in cloud service flows will rise from 22% in 2013 to 31%; Private cloud service traffic will grow by 21% per annum, and by 2018, private cloud services will fall from 78% in the cloud to 69% from 2013.

Interestingly, Cisco has also predicted in its report that the flow of software as a service will grow. By 2018, the ratio of software services to cloud service flows will rise from 41% in 2013 to 59%. The report also predicts that, by 2018, the ratio of infrastructure to services in cloud service flows will fall from 44% in 2013 to 28%. In addition, the ratio of platform-service to cloud service traffic will fall from 15% in 2013 to 13% in 2018. The report did not explain why infrastructure, the service, the platform, the service, accounted for a decline in cloud service traffic. The flow of these two cloud service models is still growing, but the growth rate is not software that is, service is fast.

Cisco also talked about the potential impact of Internet of things on cloud services. By 2018, the amount of data generated by the IoT will be 277 times times the amount of data transmitted by the user device to the data center, 47 times times the total flow of the data center.
