Important PDU Installation Features

In addition to the U-Space PDU installation, the PowerEdge 4220 rack-mounted enclosure is designed with a bay in the back door so that vertical PDUs can be easily installed without any tools, so that they do not interfere with air flow. The widened design of 4220W makes the PDU Bay further away from the rack frame, which reduces interference with installed equipment and cables.

The Dalley PDU is available in several sizes and can be used in a rack-and-frame connection. The brackets in the standard (4220) and widened (4220W) racks can hold up to four full height or eight half height devices, while the enhanced (4220D) rack brackets can accommodate up to twice times their size.

A set of cable management options

Each of the three-size PowerEdge 4220 can accommodate a server with a large chassis depth, while leaving room for cable management. Wide open base and detachable side panel offer a variety of options for finishing the cable.

Removable "tail rods" are located at the top and lower parts of the rear frame to simplify power and cabling. The tail rod can be connected again after the cable is set.

The widened rack (4220W) keeps the side panel and PDU Bay further away from the equipment installed in the rack, leaving more space for each side and back cable.

The deepened rack (4220D) has an extended PDU Bay on the back of the rack for additional power management or cabling.

The 4220 rack is designed to allow air to flow more smoothly. A 80 perforation of the front door and back door, coupled with a flexible gas dam, helps prevent hot air from flowing forward, relieving many common problems in the rack. Dell's widened rack enclosure uses an enlarged gas dam that spans the front end to ensure proper restriction of air flow. The enclosed blank panel can further control air flow for unused u space in the rack.

In order to achieve the hot Channel/cold channel efficient heat dissipation of the data center topology, the standard rack-type enclosure covers an area of two standard floor tiles, 2 feet wide and 4 feet deep. The 4220W rack is slightly wider and the 4220D rack is slightly darker. Space planners can choose the shape that best suits their data center needs.
