Facebook has just unveiled a new plan to use more than 1000 solar laser drones to provide internet access to 5 billion people worldwide.
The company will use a drone called Aquila to complete the project, which is similar to the Boeing 767, but not as heavy as a car.
At the Wednesday Developer's conference, Facebook showed the latest design of the drone, which can stay aloft for 3 months at a single altitude. Facebook said it plans to use more than 1000 such drones to provide internet access for 5 billion people, sending high-speed data from 60,000 to 90,000 feet (about 18,000 to 27,000 meters) high to the Internet in the world's remotest regions.
"We want to serve all the world." Yael Maguire, director of the Facebook Link lab, said, "Can we achieve the same level of information that everyone on earth Yel Maguille?" I'm looking forward to that day. ”
The drones are expected to be airborne this summer.
Google announced earlier this month that its drone company, Titan, is planning to launch its maiden flight this year, as well as providing Internet access to ground users. Titan drones are described as "atmospheric satellites," which can also stay aloft for a long time. The team is designing a new ultralight drone that can stay in the stratosphere for a long time to launch an Internet signal to the target area.
