As large data becomes increasingly trending, individual object storage vendors are trumpeting their technical advantages, claiming they can store and protect large volumes of data more efficiently and faster.

"Object storage, especially cloud storage, needs to cross the cheap, complex phase and become an important part of the business and service supply markets," said Henry Baltazar, senior analyst 451 Group. ”

The following is a report on some of the major object storage vendors and their products on the market.

Atmos

Atmos has become the real object storage market leader. Earlier this year, EMC released Atmos 2.0, claiming to be 5 times times faster than the old version and 65% more efficient.

We have learned that there are 200 emcatmos orders, with a deployment capacity of up to 60PB. Atmos's quarterly earnings report showed product earnings grew by more than 100% annually.

EMC, for example, said in May that Atmos's earnings have quadrupled over the past year. In June, EMC CEO Jotus said at the Revenue conference: "If you want to know about our newest products Greenplum, Atmos, Isilon, I can tell you that these three products in each quarter, each year, than the last quarter, the previous year has more than twice times growth, all three of them are all.

Caringo

Caringo, its Castor object storage product, is used by Dell's DX6000 object storage array to support OpenStack.

"OpenStack is an open-source cloud computing platform," said a Caringo spokesman. It has an object storage unit called Swift because Swift relies on the file system, so there are limitations on scalability and performance. There are also limitations in establishing data protection protocols and remote replication data logger data, and do not support destination compliance. These limits allow OpenStack to be accepted by users who require enterprise-class data and extensions.

Castor integrates OpenStack Swift accounts, containers, certifications and process controls, and seamlessly integrates with OpenStack's computing and imaging components, which offers many advantages. With a single Swift object service, more than 30% of data can be saved in the hard drive and in the data center space, and the data integrity can be maintained with only two copies. Castor's beta version has been opened to OpenStack.

DataDirect

While the DataDirect network is rapidly losing its advantage in High-performance computing, it has launched a new version of its web-targeting product, claiming it is 70% faster than AmazonS3, 100 times times faster than EMC's Atmos, and 55 billion objects per day. and rewrite 23 billion of them. It can manage hundreds of locations through a 20PB-capacity console, now supports Ipads, iphone and NFS, with comprehensive capabilities over AmazonS3 and WebDAV.

"WOS 2.0 can read 8 million times per second and write 2 million times," said Jeff Denworth, vice president of DDN Marketing. This is through the performance of the SAS disk, as with the EMLC (flash) matching use, we are not clear its upper limit. It is noteworthy that the WOS system supports SAS,SATA,SSD based on the data deployment selection protocol.

Denworth said; WOS2.0 has object protection based on coded erasure, with less storage consumption, minimal latency requirements (less than 40 microseconds of demand latency for small object writes) for data protection. ”

The code erasure function can add additional data to the data module from the original data, and when the original data is lost, the data reconstruction is realized. Reed-solomon encoding can accomplish this. The ultimate goal of this feature is to achieve data protection without having to undergo a lengthy disk raid rebuild.

It can achieve the same level of data protection as raid without raid reconstruction and replication, and is evolving to run in environments that do not support multiple-point collaboration and replication. With this function, each WOS node can withstand two simultaneous driver failures without data loss. This reminds us of RAID 6.

This is the same way EMC runs virtual machine management programs in its VMAX,VNX and Isilon arrays.

In addition, WOS 2.0 joins the asynchronous replication feature, which allows users to capture and submit objects to storage faster than expected, improving performance in building large files and large data. It also adds cloud storage management capabilities like multi-level leasing, billing returns, data encryption, and unit leasing reporting. WOS 2.0 is now on the market, targeting global cloud storage service providers, enhanced content for Web 2.0 organizations, geospatial and communications space organizations and worldwide research partners.

"The system we are designing has no hard limits," Denworth said. When we upgraded from version 1 to version 2, we increased the size of the cluster by one fold. Its performance is also in a linear elevation. Next time we upgrade we want to improve the performance by 4 times times, when we upgrade the delivery device, we want to make it read ioPS to 32 million, write ioPS up to 8 million, support 1 trillion objects.

Incidentally, I think that in some storage arrays, applications can run directly on KVM. In this case, the application can access the data at the fastest speed, like some sort of filtering in a high-performance computing environment. This EMC has a similar approach to running a host application in its VMAX,VNX and virtual machines such as Isilon arrays.

Scality

Scality has mastered its own code-based erasure technology and applied it to its own loop-based object storage products. Chief executive Jerome Leclerc said at the European SNW Conference that a copy of the data is not encoded: "We form modular data by integrating fragmented data together." Unlike Cleversafe, we didn't try to translate the data into passwords.

RAIN (the miscellaneous array of independent nodes) technology is coming up this month, and Leclerc it as an alternative to large data replication. He wants to keep reading speed, so the Tier2 storage product may be rain-protected and Tier 1 may continue to use traditional raid. Although Tier 2 does not support the same amount of IOPS as Tier1, Tier 2 has almost the same reading speed as Tier 1, combined with this technique.

Scality now has 25 users, and we believe that it would be nice to win the technology competition with Atomos through potential customers.

Generally speaking, Atmos is the target of the market competition of object storage products. Through the advantages that other manufacturers do not have, the market leader has become a potential. Scality has its own characteristics of the ring technology. DataDirect is making a positive breakthrough in the field of solid-state high-performance computing, as the creator and user of Caringo, centera technology is using Dell's name to build its own power.

Speed, data protection, space efficiency and scale are the three main factors in the development of object storage technology, and all vendors want to improve their unstructured data capabilities, and you'll hear them expose the way the file system is modeled, and open objects to store the common market door.
