Red Hat announced at the Red Hat Summit in Boston last week that it plans to launch a number of products to build mixed clouds in the coming months.

"This is a new era for Red Hat," said Brian Stevens, chief technology officer and Vice president for global engineering at Red Hat, Blaine Stevens. A few years ago, the company's customers were mainly red Hat Linux customers. However, these customers now consume many of the products of Red Hat. So announcing the new hybrid cloud means Red Hat intends to use its roadmap to integrate many groups of products into one product.

The OpenShift Enterprise PAAs (Platform-service) product bundles Red Hat's cloudforms management framework and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise virtualization, and JBoss middleware software.

OpenShift was the first public PAAs product hosted by Red Hat last year. ' What we've heard from early adopters is that they like OpenShift, but they want to consume the service entirely in their own data centers or consume it in a mixed way, ' Stevens said. This leads to the selection of new local applications (on-premises).

First, this package is for it operators and provides tools for generating computing and storage containers as well as for cloud environment templates, Stevens said.

However, Mr Stevens said Red hat also planned to launch a "DevOps" version of the product that would better reflect the developer workflow. The idea is to provide developers with the ability to wrap, test, deploy, and automate an application by pressing a button. This allows the developer to control the entire lifecycle of the software.

Both will be fully compatible with the public version of the OpenShift.

In addition, Red hat is also preparing to launch a mix of IAAS (infrastructure services) products. The product also allows users to choose the prepaid calculation time for a major public cloud service, including the use of Amazon Web services. This product includes Red Hat Enterprise virtualization, self-service portals, and other tools.

Despite these plans, Red hat still promises to be a contributor to the OpenStack IaaS program, Stevens said. The OpenStack IaaS program will be a supplement to the products released today.

The third set of products announced in Wednesday bundled Red Hat virtualization with cloudforms. Red hat executives said at a news conference that the price of the product was 500 dollars per customer host, lower than the price for VMware's vsphere software license.

These PAAs and IaaS products will be available within a few months.

The fourth product released by Red Hat is the Red Hat Storage 2.0 storage software. This was built on the basis of Red Hat's Gluster acquisition in October 2011. This product can be deployed locally or deployed in a public or private cloud.

Red hat says it has an advantage over other storage products because it can easily integrate file and object storage into one pool.

Langa Langachari Ranga Rangachari, vice president of Red hat and managing director of storage, said at a news conference that the software could run on more than 50 dual-socket x86 servers. The cost per GB storage is about 0.29 to 0.30 dollars, while the cost per GB storage for competitor products is about 1 dollars.

Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 is now available to users. However, users can also take advantage of a pair of technology previews. One is compatible with the Apache Hadoop framework for large-scale data processing. Red hat is also preparing to launch a management console based on the Open-source software Ovirt project.
