NetEase Science and technology news October 23, according to foreign http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/31646.html "> Media reports, Wednesday, Twitter launched a toolkit "Fabric" for third party developers at its first developer conference, designed to be the preferred platform for developers to develop or improve their mobile applications.
In the short term, Twitter hopes it will improve its relationship with developers. In the 2012, Twitter modified its developer terms to impose more restrictions on the application of its services, making some developers suffer.
But Twitter's ambitions are not limited to that. Fabric, while making it easier for developers to develop applications, also opens up new revenue streams for Twitter. Currently, Twitter's revenue comes only from advertising on its website and apps. To get free development tools, developers may be willing to leave Twitter a small chunk of their apps so that the company's ads can be displayed in up to 2 million apps, which are flooded with app stores run by Apple and Google. Twitter, for example, can embed Twitter messages in these apps, and ultimately ads (Twitter calls them promotional messages). Twitter also released a product in Wednesday, making it easier for developers to sell blank ads in their apps through MoPub. MoPub is the mobile ad trading platform that Twitter bought last year.
"I think fabric will push Twitter's evolution and make Twitter no longer just a consumer app," said Kevin Weil, vice president of revenue generation Kevin Will, in a media interview. Twitter will become a mobile service company that provides services to mobile developers while providing back-end infrastructure support for each mobile application on the main platform. This is a new phase in the history of Twitter development. ”
Alex Rottel Alex Roetter, vice president of Will and Twitter, is a hero behind the fabric. Previously, the two had spent nearly 4 years figuring out how Twitter could generate revenue by publishing messages that were not more than 140 characters long.
Fabric is designed to help mobile developers solve common and headache problems encountered in application development, such as fixing bugs, how to use them to generate revenue, and how to more easily identify the identity of mobile device users. Fabric has a feature called "Digits" that allows developers to authenticate users by phone numbers. If a user is "authenticated" by sending a text message, the user or developer must bear the cost of each message, and the costs will be very expensive. With the "Digits" feature, Twitter will leverage its existing partnership with wireless carriers to provide user authentication services for developers free of charge.
"There are plenty of opportunities to generate revenue in different areas, and we are not introducing fabric to generate revenue, but to make it the foundation of future ecosystems," says Will. "(Chun)
