Windows Azure's enhanced monitoring solution for SAP

This is an exciting development for customers who want to run SAP applications in Azure, please click here for more details. In this blog, I want to focus on the enhanced monitoring solution provided by Azure for SAP, which is needed when you run an SAP NetWeaver system on a Microsoft Azure virtual machine. SAP systems are typically the most critical applications that businesses run in their IT environments, with specific performance and availability requirements. Therefore, monitoring the performance of such applications becomes a key requirement.   Azure's enhanced monitoring solution for SAP is designed to meet this requirement. Built on the functionality of the recently released VM Agent and Extender, this solution contains two new extensions, 1 Windows Azure Diagnostics Extensions: This extension enables you to collect diagnostic data such as operating system and application performance counters from Azure virtual machines. Users with Azure cloud services should be familiar with Windows Azure Diagnostics, which provides the same functionality as Azure virtual Machines 2 Azure provides monitoring extensions for SAP: This is a special extension that you can use Windows Azure Diagnostic expands the collection of diagnostic data and data from other data sources, such as data from Azure Storage Analytics Metrics, and converts the data into a summary dataset that applies to SAP host control processes.   Enabling this scenario in Azure virtual machines is simple. The following is a general step   1. Ensure that Windows Azure Powershell v0.8.0 (or later)   2 is installed on your computer. As mentioned earlier, this scenario requires the VM Agent to be installed on the Azure virtual machine where you want to run the SAP system. Since February 2014, the VM Agent has been installed by default for all virtual machines created using the Azure management portal or using PowerShell from the Mirror library. If your virtual machine does not have a VM Agent installed, you can easily download and install it by following the instructions in part 4.4 of this documentVM Agent.   3. Download and import our PowerShell cmdlet for deploying the Azure Enhanced monitoring solution for SAP. Once the import is complete, simply run the PowerShell cmdlet "Update-vmconfigforsap_gui". This interactive script asks you to provide the following input data:   Azure subscription credentials, the name of the virtual machine you want to update.   4. When you provide the input you need in the previous step, your VM deploys and configures Azure's enhanced monitoring solution for SAP for use within minutes. Note that we can also run other cmdlet to check and troubleshoot the End-to-end solution in your virtual machine.
