In a system management environment, event &http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/37954.html ">nbsp; is an important thing that happens to a task or system, An event can be further divided into an alert (discovery problem) or a solution (discovery solution). Depending on the relevance and importance of the issue, some measures may be needed to maintain the best use of datacenter resources. The administrator must be notified to take the necessary steps, or the administrator can choose to define the actions to be performed beforehand.

In the IBM Pureflex system environment, when an action is required, the Automation manager infrastructure in IBM Flex System Manager resolves the problem by notifying the administrator or initiating a predefined task. IBM Flex System Manager is a pre-configured and pre-integrated management solution for the IBM Pureflex System infrastructure. Flex System Manager dramatically reduces the manual steps required to perform typical administrative tasks by automating repetitive tasks. This article describes the Automation Manager features and how to use this feature to automatically respond to common data center events. We will use two examples to learn how to create an event automation plan that uses Automation Manager to perform predefined tasks to respond to specific alerts.

Event Automation planning and how it works

An administrator of the IBM Pureflex system environment can create an event Automation plan and apply it to a particular system or set of systems. The event automation plan automates tasks and common cloud operations to respond to situations that occur in a managed environment.

A Flex System Manager event Automation plan has three basic components:

target list: Specify one or more systems, one or more groups of systems, in a managed environment. Filter: Specifies the type of event to be processed. Action: Specifies a response to an event. You can specify that one or more actions be started when an event occurs.

Figure 1 shows an administrator using the Event Don Plan Wizard that is provided with the Flex System Manager console to create an incident Automation program:

By default, administrators can choose from all available events, as shown in the wizard's Event Filters screen (the background figure in Figure 1). The Create Action screen (the foreground of Figure 1) shows a series of common actions that can be selected for the event. When an event automation plan is ready, if an event occurs, the action specified for the event is automatically executed.

Figure 2 shows a brief overview of the setup and execution of the event Automation plan:

Figure 2. Event Automation Plan setup and execution overview

The sequence of specific execution steps (as shown in Figure 2) is:

The

administrator creates an event automation plan and applies it to a particular system or set of systems, such as a server farm. In the event Automation plan, an administrator uses a filter to specify which type of event to handle, or to specify an event action (such as sending an e-mail notification) for each event of these events. An event appears in the system associated with the event Automation plan. If the event Automation plan includes a filter that specifies the type of event that just appears, the plan will understand whether the filter specifies any action. If an action is specified, such as sending an e-mail notification, the action is performed.

Now that you have an understanding of the Automation Manager and event Automation planning features in Flex System Manager, we will understand how event automation plans can help you automate actions through two common data center scenarios.
