Hong Kong consumer confidence has increased markedly over the past 3 months, according to a survey published by the Hong Kong Intellectual Research Centre on 5th, Hong Kong, January 5. The "Smart Hong Kong Consumer Confidence Index", which reflects consumers ' short-term future economic behaviour and confidence, rose from 115.4 in September 2009 to 127.1 in December 2009. Hu Dingxu, chairman of the Research Centre, said the consumer confidence index had risen, saying consumers were optimistic about Hong Kong's current and short-term future economy and were therefore planning to increase consumption and investment in the next 3 months. Beginning in June 2009, the Centre for Intellectual Studies in the context of the overall economic and employment situation in Hong Kong, family income and the employment situation of family members, home ownership, personal consumption and non-recurrent large consumption, and personal investment, a quarterly survey was conducted on the basis of telephone interviews to formulate the "Hong Kong consumer Confidence Index". The survey, which was conducted from December 1, 2009 to 5th, was visited by Hong Kong permanent residents aged over 18 and successfully visited 1070 persons.
