The wave of cloud computing has not yet calmed, and the era of big data has arrived. 2012, large data from the technical circle into the mainstream market, become developed countries, well-known advisory bodies and multinational enterprises focus on the application in many industries. So where is the value of big data? What new opportunities will it bring to the booming data business in the communications industry?

Big data contains huge market space

The large data era of mass storage, fast read-write, real-time analysis and other needs, will promote the chip, storage and other hardware and software market and the large data training-related services market rapid development. According to IDC and McKinsey reports, the next 3 years, with large data-related software market growth will reach 34%, supporting services will increase by 39%. According to Wikibon's latest report, the big data market is in the early stages of blowout growth, and the global data market will be worth as much as $50 billion in the next 5 years.

Large data will lead to greater market potential when promoting the upgrading of related industries. McKinsey has quantified these opportunities, thinking that at least 300 billion dollars a year in the health services industry can generate a value of about 250 billion dollars a year in the European public administration, and in the field of personal location services will give the service provider at least 100 billion dollars worth.

In China, the large data market will grow from $3.2 billion trillion in 2010 to $16.9 billion in 2015 and increase by more than 40% a year, according to IDC's "insights into the Internet market" in June 2012.

Due to the huge market space, there are a large number of entrepreneurial companies emerging and growing rapidly around large data areas, and there are likely to be new world-class companies, such as the operating system in Microsoft, social networking on Facebook. Venture capitalists are also turning to big data from the social sphere. As in November 2011, Accel, a famous Silicon Valley venture capital, announced the establishment of a special fund of up to 100 million dollars to invest in big data start-ups. In August 2012, Marissa Mayer, the husband of Yahoo CEO Mayer, also set up a venture capital fund, Bogue, which specializes in large data fields.

The rapid growth of entrepreneurial companies will challenge those areas that have long been dominated by companies such as Oracle and IBM. In order to enhance the strength and speed up the strategic layout, multinational IT companies are acquiring entrepreneurial companies. IBM, Oracle, EMC, SAP and other international IT giants have spent more than 1.5 billion dollars to acquire relevant data management and analysis vendors. It can be foreseen that in the next 3-5 years, the big data market will usher in an important acquisition period.

Around large data, new segments and opportunities will continue to be created. The big data market has four new areas to focus on: data collection, data mining and analysis, education and training of large data, and standardized products for large data. They represent the most promising and valuable areas of future big data markets. Large data in the retail industry has unlimited potential. According to McKinsey, retailers can increase operating margins by more than 60% per cent by fully using large data services, such as tapping social media trends such as Twitter and Facebook. Big data also have the potential to dig in health care, insurance, banking and other financial services industries. IBM has a 5000-member data Analysis team that helps oil companies survey, extract and refine oil more efficiently. GM said in May this year that it would invest $1.5 billion in a large data analysis company to fully tap multiple data points to find effective ways to extend the uptime of gas turbines, jet engines and other heavy equipment without having to do unscheduled maintenance.
