If you ask someone in Hadoop about how to use Hadoop beyond the current batch processing platform, then one of the main answers is definitely real time. In fact, a discussion topic for next month's "Structure:data" is also this, and businesses want Hadoop to be an operational database with various types of OLAP engines.
So far, hstreaming companies are trying to add a real-time component to their Hadoop environment, and when data is submitted to the system, data is processed before it is stored on the disk, such as open source technology Kafka and Storm. Of course, this is not a simple job, Uhlig seems to be the current version of the open source is only in the initial stage (like Storm, can be perfect to reach the data block classification), but not enough in the analytical capacity.
Another aspect, hstreaming, has built a complete system that leverages real-time engines to handle data streams generated on video, servers, sensors, and other machines. And it is also fully compatible with Hadoop as an archiving and batch processing system. Uhlig also says it adds a lot of existing BI tools for data analysis.
What's even more fascinating is that there's no need to make any changes to users of Hadoop. Hstreaming can be streamed using the same mapreduce algorithm and the pig script that the user has already written. In the actual operation, Uhlig says, users can move from a system that can only be batched to the real-time system within a few days.
So far, she says, the company's current earnings have come mainly from the government (especially video analytics, where hstreaming can handle thousands of camera images in real time), telecoms operators and advertising. The company plans to put its goals in the field of public infrastructure and financial services in the future.
Hstreaming seems absolutely capable of such technical prowess. Uhlig is the CEO of the company, the CTO of the company is Volkmar Uhlig (her husband), the Chief Software Architect is a stoess, both of whom have a ph. D. in computer science. Volkmar, the chief architect of the L4 Microkernel, has built a high-frequency trading system that has worked for five years at the TJ Watson Research Center in IBM, which is a research stream-processing technology.
