Microsoft v. Samsung patent dispute or have a far-reaching impact on WP business

Microsoft's patent lawsuit against Samsung could have far-reaching implications for the Windows Phone business. Microsoft has made a huge profit by charging royalties, which is widely expected to charge a few dollars for each of its Android handsets. As to what patents are involved and how they are collected, it is a very complicated matter: for most people, it is only necessary to know that the matter has been recognized by most industry companies. This allows Microsoft to gain steady revenues from its main mobile market rivals. After months of negotiations, Microsoft has filed a lawsuit requiring the court to recognise the validity of both contracts and to force Samsung to pay royalties. If Microsoft wins, Samsung must continue to pay royalties and may even pay for last year's arrears. But if the court finds Samsung wins, Samsung and other Android makers could lose the royalties altogether. In other words, Microsoft will lose an income source, and the price advantage of Windows Pone will disappear. Microsoft needs to use all available resources to persuade handset makers to develop Windows Phone devices. So far, Microsoft has managed to retain most Windows phone vendors, and even some new partners, but the result of the lawsuit is likely to have an impact on the long-term attractiveness of Windows Phone compared to Android. It's not easy to sort out the dispute. So far, we've only heard of Microsoft's Word, and even the published documents have been drastically revised. Samsung only said in a statement that the company would assess the lawsuit in detail and respond appropriately. But beyond that, no comment has been made.
