Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced the establishment of a large data research center at MIT in Wednesday. The MIT computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has announced a new plan called Bigdata@csail, which will make it meaningful for more financial, medical, social media and security-generated data. These areas typically require processing of large datasets.
Deval Patrick says he will organize resources for MIT to nurture the next generation of data scientists. 50,000 large data-related posts will be added by 2018.
Intel announces that it will build an Intel Science and Technology Center (ISTC) dedicated to large data at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), and MIT will receive a total of $12.5 million for 5 years. Intel Chief technology officer Justin Rattner says that the current unstructured data on the web is entering an unprecedented period of growth, which will facilitate rapid growth of mobile devices and more data connections.
Intel Science and Technology Center is committed to building (Bigdata@csail) software tools that transcend the scale of traditional software platforms, such as relational databases. (terminator/Compilation)
