Novell will close Vibe Cloud collaboration Suite

Novell has decided to close its network-hosted "Vibe Cloud Enterprise Social Collaboration Kit". Its rival's products are selling well in the market and the vibe Cloud Suite has been completely defeated.

The Vibe Cloud Suite will be officially offline by the end of December, and Novell plans to progressively incorporate its features and functionality into its internal sister suite vibe on Prem over the next year to 1.5.

Beginning with the late 2009, the Vibe Cloud Suite was beta tested in November 2010 and met with consumers around the world in April this year. However, the use of the product is not optimistic, the current customer is less than 50, and the customer is using an entry-level free version, so Novell decided to strengthen vibe on Prem research and development. The current strategy is to sell vibe on Prem to the existing Novell GroupWise Enterprise information delivery and collaboration suite, which currently has 30 million end users. Vibe on Prem (formerly known as teaming) will be renamed Vibe after the Vibe Cloud Suite is closed.

"We are fragmented in achieving corporate social collaboration, and we need to integrate strategies and resources to expand vibe technology," said Bob Flynn, president and general manager of Novell. If we can position the technology properly and be consistent with the GroupWise users, it also has value-added potential. So we are constantly seeking vibe in the market with the GroupWise point. ”

In recent years, the competition between cloud computing and internal enterprise social collaboration, production, communication market has intensified. Major companies include Google Apps, Microsoft Office 365 and products from Ibm-lotus, Cisco, and Vmware,jive,socialtext,yammer,box.net.

Some vendors ' kits are available only in cloud mode, such as the Google Apps suite. Others can be mixed-compatible, such as Microsoft's cloud-based Office 365, which synchronizes and interacts with the internal versions of some applications, such as Exchange,sharepoint and office. Novell's goal is to adopt a mixed compatibility model by incorporating the functionality of the Vibe Cloud Suite into vibe on Prem.

By adopting and adapting social networks and media (such as Twitter and Facebook) to fit the workplace, corporate social software seeks to promote cooperation among employees.

These corporate social kits usually allow employees to create personal pages (which include their contact information, expertise), they can post messages, share links, comment posts, edit Shared Documents, and add co-workers as contacts. Once the contacts have been updated (such as sharing links or comments), the content will be automatically displayed as a timeline on the personal page.

These kits often also provide user terminals with functions such as Im chat, forums, blogs, and wikis. At the same time, IT managers can make use of policies and parameters, and monitor the use of staff.

Some kits have their own e-mail and office production applications, such as the Google Enterprise Suite and Office 365. Once the Google + social networking site is being adapted to the working environment, the corporate social functions of the company suite will be greatly enhanced.

While Novell tends to turn users to vibe on Prem, the company has not finalized how to handle the users of the vibe Cloud Suite. If the customer turns to vibe on Prem, they will be required to pay 81 USD for a user license, 20 USD as the annual priority maintenance fee, or 18 USD for the standard maintenance cost. However, when the Vibe Cloud Suite shuts down, Vibe on Prem will not have cloud-based collaboration capabilities.

When Vibecloud was announced in 2009 to begin research and development, Novell was an independent company, but now it has become a part of Attachmate. Novell recently set up a new management team and reorganized it.

Attachmate's Novell department only includes Novell's end-user computing products, such as zenworks,groupwise, file management kits, open Enterprise Servers, and vibe.

Novell's SUSE Linux operating system has been taken over by another department in Attachmate, and Novell's identity management, security and data center management products will be taken over by Attachmate's NetIQ division, whose products include identity managers, cloud security services, Cloud Management and Operations center and so on.

Flynn, a senior executive at Attachmate, who became the chief executive of Novell Department three months ago, said: "Novell's user terminals calculate poor sales strategies, including GroupWise and vibe." By November, Novell will organize a complete sales team dedicated to its products, especially Groupwise,netware and its successor Novell Enterprise Server and ZENworks. ”

Novell products have also received more support in engineering resources and staff allocation. The priority policy would be to strengthen GroupWise support for mobile devices so that end users can access more from mobile phones and tablets, while also performing more functions.

Flynn continued: "We focus on the GroupWise product area." By talking to consumers, we find that despite their strong products, they are outdated in functionality and features. We must renew it, make it widely available in the market and feel more contemporary. ”
