Qubit, a new survey of online consumer data platforms, shows that http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/7820.html "> online retailers are losing around $1.73 billion a year in the world because of the slow loading of web pages." The slow loading of web pages is frustrating for consumers, but most of the existing retail sites do not consider improving the speed of the site as a primary task.
Research also points out that consumers are becoming increasingly impatient. In the 2006, consumers were willing to spend 4 seconds waiting for a Web page to load, but consumers were only willing to wait two seconds by the year 2009.
Econsultancy, published in the British Internet Statistics Summary (Internet Statistics Compendium), uses data from the network hosting company Rackspace, which shows that 38% of UK online shoppers who wait more than 10 seconds will give up the site or mobile apps.
In addition, Google believes that if a page is loaded more than 1.5 seconds is slow, the search engine will reduce its ranking. Because only about One-tenth (28%) of users go to the second page of Google search results, this can have a fatal effect on the traffic on the retail site.
Slow speed also affects the conversion rate of mobile Internet, 74% of users will not wait for a mobile site for more than 5 seconds.
In order to quantify the actual impact of the site loading time, Qubit has surveyed 60,000 consumers, covering more than 80 sites, involving retail, tourism, technology, finance and publishing industries. 8% of the users said that the slow loading of the pages was the main reason for their abandonment of the purchase, although it was not scientific to assume that all consumers would complete the purchase.
Based on the average conversion rate of retail sites (4.35%) and global online sales (496 billion U.S. dollars), Qubit estimates that the loss to online retailers due to the slow loading of the web is estimated at 1.73 billion U.S. dollars annually.
The report assesses the speed at which Web pages are loaded in several industries, and finds that the average load time for the site's home page is 3.5 seconds, while some pages load at 15 seconds. The product page loading speed is usually the slowest, is the homepage loading speed twice times.
Qubit also gives some advice on how to improve the loading speed of web pages. Specifically as follows:
1. Use Content Delivery Network
2. Optimize HTML, CCS, and JavaScript
3. Optimize picture content
4. Using Browser caching
5. Optimizing HTTP Requests
