According to Http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/10188.html "> Symantec's recent survey of 3,700 information technology managers from 35 countries, Many organizations do not get the results they expect from virtualization and cloud computing.
One-fourth per cent of respondents said their institutions had implemented some form of storage virtualization, desktop/terminal virtualization, Server virtualization, proprietary storage services, or private/hybrid cloud computing. Another One-fourth said they were still in operation, while 20% said they were implementing the pilot project, and 20% said they were discussing and planning to use virtualization or cloud computing within the group. But most of the one-fourth of IT managers who implemented cloud computing or virtualization expressed disappointment with their price/performance.
Surveys show that most people seem to be satisfied with server virtualization. But 33% of respondents were disappointed with storage virtualization, 26% were disappointed with desktop/terminal virtualization, 37% were disappointed in private storage and 32% were disappointed with private/mixed cloud computing.
The biggest complaint about hybrid/private cloud computing is its scalability, security, and time spent providing new resources. With regard to storage virtualization, One-third of IT managers say they feel the expected benefits of operating costs, flexibility, and scalability. More than One-third said they were disappointed with the scalability of proprietary memory, simplicity and efficiency.
' Scalability must be managed for the virtual environment, ' said Sean Dennington, head of cloud strategy at Symantec Information Management Group Shawn Nington. In short, most of the respondents who are actively implementing virtualization and cloud computing find that "implementing Virtualization and cloud computing is not as effective as it should be." "Shawn Nington said.
One reason for this, Pennington says, is the gap between expectations and reality, especially storage virtualization, which changes the power of data centers and affects storage, server, and database management programs. The survey also showed that the virtualized environment also increased the number of complaints. 72% of respondents said that virtualized environments did affect performance and application availability.
Pennington also said that few respondents thought the above was a barrier to the use of virtualization, but everyone was very concerned about the problem. Because mission-critical applications, including enterprise information planning and E-commerce, are deploying virtualized environments.
Symantec's survey did not ask what specific virtualization platforms and services were specifically implemented by the agencies.
