VMWare is the leading manufacturer of global virtualization solutions. It not only provides a variety of virtualization products and management components, such as vsphere and vcenter, but also opens up APIs for these products and components and provides different SDKs for developers to develop their own VMWare clients. Vsphere is the flagship product of VMware, a new generation of cloud-based Data Center virtualization suite that includes components such as Esx/esxi,vcenter,vsphere Client, providing a suite of solutions for virtualization infrastructure, high availability, centralized management, and monitoring. VMWare provides a complete API and Web servicess SDK for vsphere. IBM SmartCloud Entry (scentry) integrates the VMware servicess virtualization platform through vsphere Web vcenter SDK, providing an IaaS lightweight solution for x86 servers.

This article will briefly introduce the vsphere Web servicess SDK and take scentry as an example of how to use the SDK to get the state of the components in vsphere, and also describe how scentry is synchronized with the cloud State.

Scentry Introduction

IBM SmartCloud Entry (SCENTRY) is IBM based on the above market requirements of the products launched. SmartCloud Entry delivers the power server and the IaaS lightweight solution for the x86 server through the integration of virtualized platforms such as IBM VMControl or VMware vcenter, which greatly simplifies existing virtualization solutions in the industry, Shielding its complexity, without weakening the basic functions, but also provides billing and usage statistics, query and role control, approval and other functions. SmartCloud Entry can be installed in Windows, Linux, and AIX environments.

Scentry uses Java development with an OSGI architecture that provides more flexible scalability. On the architecture, Scentry connects and integrates different clouds through different configurable Adapter, and this architecture provides great flexibility. Figure 1 shows the overall architecture of the scentry, where the red part is the VMWare Adapter and its connected vcenter. The VMWare Adapter module connects, manages, and monitors the state of vcenter by Vsphere Web Services, while Vcenter manages the cloud of many virtual institutions. On the other hand, we can also configure VMControl Adapter for Scentry so that scentry can connect to the IBM VMControl service to manage IBM Vmcontrol/system through Director PowerVM. As for VMControl and System Director, this is no longer detailed here.

In later chapters, we will describe in detail the concept of vsphere Web services and how to use vsphere Web Services in Scentry to monitor and obtain state information for entities in vcenter. Because Scentry is developed in Java, all of the code examples in this article are written in Java.
