Market research firm IHS iSuppli released a survey some time ago, the report shows that because of the growing dependence on cloud storage and streaming media, resulting in reduced demand for local storage capacity, smart phone and tablet manufacturers will be the storage capacity of the device Also downgraded.
IHS iSuppli said on Tuesday local time, the average storage capacity of mobile phones has been reduced from 13.2GB in the first half of last year to 12.8GB in the first half of this year. This is in sharp contrast to the rapid growth of handset storage capacity in recent years. The average storage capacity of handsets increased from 4.6GB in the first half of 2011 to 13.2GB in the first half of last year.
The trend of tablet storage capacity is similar to that of smartphones. IHS iSuppli said in a news release, "From the first half of last year to the first half of this year, the average tablet storage capacity decreased from 32.1GB to 24GB, a decrease of 25% .In the first half of this year, it dropped 42% to 14GB."
The direct reason for the reduced storage capacity of smartphones and tablets is the growth of cloud services. Ryan Chien, memory and storage analyst at IHS iSuppli, said storage and streaming services "reduce the storage requirements for smartphones and tablets."
IHS iSuppli said smaller-size tablets have 50% less storage capacity than the 10-inch tablets that once dominated the market. More importantly, many new models of smart phones no longer provide microSD slots, the same for flash memory chip makers, is another blow.
