In recent years, scientists have been trying to develop micro-robots that can flow through bodily fluids, not only to repair damaged cells but also to deliver drugs. Today, the team of intelligent systems scientists from the Deutsche Mark Planck Institute has developed a miniature robot that is scallop-shaped, because the robot is very small and barely visible with the naked eye.
This miniature scallop robot can swim in blood, eye fluid, and other bodily fluids. For a number of reasons, scientists have finally found that imitating the true scallop is the ideal way to swim in the body.
First, moving forward and backward is the best way to swim in a non-Newtonian fluid or in a liquid that, depending on the actual situation, can thicken or become diluted. As you may have guessed, there are many good examples of bodily fluids that, unlike water, need to maintain a certain viscosity. Second, the tiny scallops don't need much power to move, they don't need batteries, they don't even need a motor, they just need an external magnetic field to provide the energy.
According to scientists, they did not consider any particular purpose for the miniature scallop robot. In fact, they hope the miniature robot will provide some design reference for other teams and companies that develop advanced medical technology. Currently, you can view their latest published paper in the journal Nature.
The robot also brings to mind the recent Google's early disease diagnosis program, which allows nanoparticles to enter the body and combine them to detect cancer cells, early warning of disease. It is estimated that there will be more similar micro-machines in the future, then we do not have to try to develop the simulation of the robot, because we have become the machine "person".
