How to set up DNS server? To successfully deploy the DNS service, the computer running Windows
Server 2003 must have a static IP address. Only in this way can the DNS client locate the
DNS server. In addition, if you want the DNS server to be able to resolve domain names on the Internet, you need to ensure that the DNS server can connect to the Internet normally.
DNS server installation server
There is no DNS server installed in the Windows Server 2003 system by default.
DNS server
The first job done is to install the
DNS server.
Step 1, click "Start/Administrative Tools/Configure Your
Server Wizard", and then click the "Next" button in the wizard page that opens. The configuration wizard automatically detects the settings of all network connections. If no problems are found, enter the "Server Role" wizard page.
Tips: If it is the first time to use the configuration wizard, a "Configuration Options" wizard page will also appear, click the "Custom Configuration" radio button.
The second step, in the "server role" list, click the "DNS server" option, and click the "Next" button. Open the "Select Summary" wizard page, if "Install DNS Server" and "Run Configure DNS
Server Wizard to configure DNS" appear in the list, click the "Next" button directly. Otherwise, click the "Back" button to reconfigure.
The third step, the wizard starts the
DNS server settings, and may prompt to insert the Windows Server 2003 installation CD or specify the installation source file.
Tip: If the server is currently configured to obtain an IP address automatically, the "Configuring Components" page of the "Windows Components Wizard" will appear, prompting the user to configure the DNS server with a static IP address.
DNS server creation zone
After the DNS server is installed, the "Configure DNS Server Wizard" dialog box will automatically open. Users can create areas under the guidance of the wizard.
Step 1. Click the "Next" button on the welcome page of the "Configure DNS Server Wizard" to open the "Select Configuration Operation" wizard page. By default, the "Create Forward Lookup Zone" radio box, which is suitable for small networks, is selected. Keep the default options and click the "Next" button.
Step 2, open the "Main Server Location" wizard page, if the deployed DNS
server
DNS server
If it is the first DNS server in the network, you should keep the "This server maintains this zone" radio box checked, use this DNS server as the primary DNS server, and click the "Next" button.
The third step is to open the "Region Name" wizard page, enter a region name that reflects company information (such as "yesky.com") in the "Region Name" edit box, and click the "Next" button.
Step 4. In the opened "Zone File" wizard page, a file name has been filled in by default based on the zone name. The file is an ASCⅡ text file, which saves the information of the area, and is saved in the "windowssystem32dns" folder by default. Keep the default value unchanged and click the "Next" button.
Step 5, specify the type of registration information update that the DNS zone can accept in the opened "Dynamic Update" wizard page. Allowing dynamic updates allows the system to automatically register relevant information in DNS, which is more useful in practical applications, so click the "Allow non-secure and secure dynamic updates" radio box and click the "Next" button.
Step 6, open the "forwarder" wizard page, and keep the check box of "Yes, the query should be forwarded to the DNS
server with the following IP address". Type the DNS server IP address provided by the ISP (or superior DNS server) in the IP address edit box, and click the "Next" button.
Tips: By configuring the "forwarder", internal users can use the
DNS server provided by the local ISP for domain name resolution when accessing sites on the Internet.
Step 7, click the "Finish/Finish" button in turn to end the process of creating the "yesky.com" zone and the process of installing and configuring the DNS server.
DNS server to create a domain name
The "yesky.com" zone was successfully created using the wizard, but internal users cannot use this name to access internal sites because it is not yet a qualified domain name. Then you need to create domain names pointing to different hosts on the basis of it to provide domain name resolution services. Prepare to create a domain name "www.yesk y.c om" to access the Web site. The specific steps are as follows:
Step 1. Click "Start" → "Administrative Tools" → "DNS" menu command in turn to open the "dnsmagt" console window.
The second step, in the left pane, expand the "ServerName" → "forward search area" directory. Then right-click the "yesky.com" area and execute the "New Host" command in the shortcut menu
Execute the "New Host" command
Step 3. Open the "New Host" dialog box, and type a name that can represent the service provided by the host in the "Name" edit box (type "www" in this example). Type the host's IP address (such as "192.168.0.198") in the "IP address" edit box, and click the "Add Host" button. Soon you will be prompted that the host record has been successfully created.
Finally, click the "Finish" button to end the creation.
DNS server settings client
Although the DNS server has been successfully created and a suitable domain name has been created, if you cannot use a domain name like "www.yesky.com" to access the website in the client's browser. This is because although there is a DNS server, the client does not know where the DNS server is and therefore cannot recognize the domain name entered by the user. The user must manually set the IP address of the DNS server. Set the IP address of the DNS server just deployed in the "Preferred DNS Server" edit box in the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" dialog box of the client (in this example, "192.168.0.1", as shown in Figure 11).
Set the client DNS server address
Then use the domain name to visit the website again, and you will find that it can be accessed normally.
DNS server configuration forwarder
Take the DNS server in the Windows Server 2003 system as an example to introduce the method of setting the DNS forwarder:
Step 1. Open the DNS console window, right-click the name of the DNS server where you want to set the DNS forwarder in the left pane, and select the "Properties" command.
Step 2. Open the server properties dialog box and switch to the "Transponder" tab. Enter the IP address of the DNS server provided by the ISP in the "IP address list of forwarders of the selected domain" edit box, and click the "Add" button.
Repeat the operation to add the IP addresses of multiple DNS servers. It should be noted that in addition to the DNS server IP address provided by the local ISP, you can also add the DNS server IP addresses of ISPs in other regions.
In step 3, users can also adjust the order of the IP address list. Select the IP address to be adjusted in the IP address list of the forwarder, and click the "Move Up" or "Move Down" button to perform related operations. Under normal circumstances, the IP address of the DNS server with faster response speed should be adjusted to the top. Click the "OK" button to make the settings take effect.
