01 sharpening in Adobe CAMERA Raw
The extent to which a raw file needs to be sharpened depends on a number of factors, including the subject matter of the work, the details of the picture, the camera used for the shot, and so on. The sharpening setting in ACR provides 4 option sliders, first of all, to control the intensity of sharpening. For most photos, the sharpening quantity setting should not be more than 50, but we can also consider a higher quantity value if we intend to use the processed file directly for printing or uploading to the website.
The next slider is the radius, which controls the size of the range to which edge sharpening affects. Then the details, set it to 40 or 50 of the large value can enhance the texture and other small details of sharpness, set to 10 or about 20 of the small value will focus on the sharp region focused on the obvious edge of the scene.
Finally, the mask, can suppress the sharpness of the command for the smooth area of the effect, control the noise performance of the screen. You can set this option to 0 when you are working with photos taken with lower sensitivity, and you can set it to around 50 when you are working with photos taken with higher sensitivity.
02 Selective Sharpening
Sharpening can make the noise point more obvious, the transition smooth area influence is especially serious, because of this we rarely to the picture global big parameter sharpening. The most classic example is the sharpening of portrait work, we hope that the eye can be as clear as possible, but for other parts, especially the background, there is no similar need.
Sharpening tool is the most simple way to sharpen the screen, we can use the Brush tool to add sharpening effect to the picture, the extent and range can be controlled according to their own preferences. Before using the brush tool to sharpen a photo, you first need to copy the background layer to make it easy for us to return to the raw file without sharpening it. Select the Sharpening tool from the toolbar and apply the soft edge brush with the appropriate size to the area where you need sharpening. When adjusted, the strength is set to 20%, and the protection details option must be turned on.
If you want to control the sharpening effect more accurately, you can choose to use sharpening layer mask. You can control the area and intensity of sharpening by painting and adjusting the opacity of the brush.
03 High Contrast retention filters
High contrast retention filters in Photoshop are excellent substitutes for other sharpening tools such as the USM filter. Before sharpening the photo, we first need to create a merged copy of the entire diagram, go color-process the copy, and set its blending mode to overlay. After you finish your preparation, perform the filters > other > High-contrast commands to use the RADIUS to control the effects of sharpening. To make the sharpening effect seem natural, the setting value between 1 and 3 pixels is generally selected.
USM Sharpening Filter
USM Sharpening is the most widely used and most effective sharpening tool in Photoshop and other kinds of image processing software.
The USM Sharpening Filter dialog box provides 3 control options, first the quantity slider, which we typically set between 80 and 120 to avoid excessive sharpening. The next is the RADIUS slider, which controls the sharpness of the edge of the image. To avoid the obvious bright edges of the screen, do not use a setting value greater than 3. Finally, the threshold slider, most of the time, do not use a setting value higher than 5. A higher setting helps to suppress the noise problem that occurs when a high sensitivity photo is sharpened.
05 sharpening using the Sharpness slider
Although sharpness does not actually affect the sharpness of the picture, improving the sharpness setting can make the picture look sharper. The definition slider controls the middle contrast of the picture, but does not affect the overall contrast of the picture. Compared with other means of adjusting the contrast, this way can be without loss of high light or shadow details of the premise of the picture to bring more powerful visual impact.
Like many other Photoshop treatments, too much work may give the picture a lot of flaws that we don't want to see. Start to set the number below 20, if the magnification to 100% check after the effect is ideal, you can consider further improve the setting value. But make sure that the photos look real, and if your picture is more serious, how to sharpen it will be useless.
