From the end of August to the end of October, for two months, I completed my first MOOC public course in life-an introduction to Computer science from MIT, which is the first course for most of the freshmen in electronic engineering and computing. There is no need for any preparatory knowledge in this course, and the teachers are well-intentioned to assume that you have not learned the programming language and do not understand calculus, which means that any student graduating from high school can learn.
If you go to a little bit about the history of the Open class, you'll know that the top universities in America have been committed to the revolution in education. The first generation of public classes, relatively humble, the school record teacher class video, hanging on the internet, you can see the American real classroom, the teacher does not seem to be a special preparation for the public classes, as usual class, the teacher unbridled idle Kan school fun, black a little bit other schools. Even in class, near the final exam, the students spontaneously played a self-made song to thank the teacher and also hope that the teacher can give themselves a higher score, the teacher wept, so do I. (32 minutes farewell to the show) This is my first time last winter vacation, I watched the scene of the public class, I was deeply attracted, and then it was out of hand. (By the way, the teacher in the video is the best teacher I've ever seen, and I have a chance to talk about it later.)
MIT has always been at the forefront of education, and now you can find almost all of MIT's undergraduate and postgraduate courses (in-link knowledge eecs courses) at MIT Opencourse Ware. The first generation of public class, the teacher is specially for the school students, did not take into account the far distant students, the blackboard on the freedom of the clear reading reasons, it is always difficult to see clearly, students are also difficult to consciously buy books, let alone to do homework, these courses of this treatment provides work and even provide test questions. But the problem is simple, but it is not so easy to solve, the university professors for the school students lecture is the tuition fees, that why the students far away in the special preparation of a course. Despite all the difficulties, it seems like a miracle for ordinary people to use these video courses to complete the entire course of a bachelor's degree in computer science alone. (The story is also very exciting) in the next semester, we have a class called "Information Theory", an accidental opportunity to find that MIT also has a similar public class, so I was excited to read the video of the course, and by the way, I also reading some of their lectures on the lectures, to see the public class is almost completely helpless In the school exams, but let me see something interesting in them.
In 2012, Professor Wunda of Stanford University founded the landmark Coursera website, and this September he came to Peking University to see Mooc's activities and share his experience of founding Coursera. Ten years ago he was a teacher who was not popular with his students, and he then set up a camera in his bedroom, recording a few minutes of lectures every day, and as the lectures improved, in 2011, he opened a public course for MOOC-machine learning, This leads directly to the birth of the Coursera. This is MOOC's 2.0, the teacher according to the characteristics of MOOC, specially for it to record a small segment of video, usually a video time of not more than 15 minutes, after watching the video also need to complete the relevant exercises, if you have a problem with the teacher and the students to discuss the course, some courses also need to see the exam, Successfully complete the course and you will be able to obtain a certificate.
At the same time as Wunda founded Coursera, MIT and Harvard co-founded EDX, dedicated to the second-generation public class education. The second generation of public classes has one feature, many of which emphasize self-contained, that is, he provides all the information you need to study this course, including videos, exercises, handouts, and no additional preparation. Now that MOOC has swept the globe, many universities with a certain level have either joined Cousera, or have joined EDX, and have many organizations offering MOOC courses, but the two organizations that derive from universities and deep keyinn education methods have become rivals. Tsinghua University in China has been involved, but it seems that in the places where famous universities are gathered, they do not have much competitiveness.
Coursera and EdX Close, join Cousera University to more, open more courses, so popular, perhaps and founder Wunda born with Chinese feelings in Hong Kong, Coursera have a dedicated team in China propaganda, but a lot of courses will inevitably mixed, Some of the courses are not so exquisite, and a lesson is no matter. In contrast, EdX joined the school is less, the curriculum is more detailed, such as I learned this course, is also one of the earliest courses in edx, after that, each year will be opened at least two times, every time there will be a slight modification.
All in all, this is just the beginning, at the beginning I think this is a great challenge, but now I successfully completed it, in the new era, everywhere is full of change, walking in the forefront of the times, I think I will have more opportunities!
