A US web site called hubpages.com says it can slow Google's crackdown on content farms by using a "subdomain" approach to Farm.

Flow Drop

Google started tweaking its search algorithms this February and launched a new algorithm called "Panda" (Panda) to reduce low-quality content. The search rankings for thousands of sites have been lowered, and HubPages is one of the biggest sites. But the company has now found a new solution: to ease the problem by dividing the site into thousands of small sites.

HubPages was founded 5 years ago, the company employs hundreds of thousands of authors to write content, and mainly through Google search to obtain traffic. Paul Edmondson, the company's CEO, said early indications that the Paul Edmundsen could slow Google's crackdown.

Edmondson said the site's content involves many aspects, although it contains some low-quality content, but also provides a lot of high-quality original articles, but the site's overall ranking has been Google downgrade, resulting in traffic fell 50%. It also has a big impact on the business of HubPages. The company has earned about $10 million trillion in revenue from Google AdSense and will pay 60% of them to the authors.

After Google changed the algorithm, HubPages has strengthened the site's editorial standards, and has taken other measures, but it has not worked. But Edmondson a new discovery. Google search engine will hubpages part of the content index as "ww.hubpages.com" rather than "hubpages.com", and the error index of the site in some search results ranked higher.

Expedient

Edmondson this May, wrote to Google engineers, and asked if the site can be split into multiple "sub-domain", each domain provides a specific content, so that the equivalent of a separate Web site. In this way, Google's algorithm may be able to distinguish which parts of the HubPages contain original content, and which parts contain low-quality repetitive content. WordPress, Tumblr and Google's bloggers all adopt subdomains, but Google's YouTube does not use this model.

In June this year, Matt Katz, Google's search quality director, replied to Edmondson that he might be able to try the domain name and other ways at once. As a result, HubPages began testing the subdomain at the end of June this year, and has achieved positive results. After Google adjusted the algorithm, Edmondson itself on the HubPages article page browsing volume has slipped 50%, but in the first three weeks after the use of subdomains, has been restored to the original level. The flow of other authors has also been restored.

"For good authors, our changes have had a very good effect, but poor authors have done poorly," he said. That should be exactly what Google wants. "Edmondson said. HubPages will fully deploy this program in Wednesday, assigning a subdomain to each author.

A Google spokeswoman did not comment directly, citing a blog post published by Katz in 2007. The article reads: "Subdomains can effectively differentiate between completely different content." The spokesman added: "We will continue to improve the panda algorithm as part of the enhanced search quality program." He also revealed that Google will make 500 adjustments to the algorithm every year.

David Harry, head of SEO reliable, a Canadian search engine optimization company, says there is no emergency response to the panda algorithm so far. David Harry If HubPages's plan succeeds, it will be the first expedient to tackle the problem.
