Translator Note: This article describes the difference between a designer using the left brain and the right brain to think about the problem, and how best to do when there is a lack of creativity. In this article, you can see a confused designer's self profiling process.
English Original: Are you a right-brained or left-brained Designer?
Colors, pictures, ideas, designers are obviously a group of people who tend to use their right brain ... Is that right? Or is it a simple mind-set rather than a real one?
Is it possible that the industry is also filled with solutions to the problem of analysis? Let's look at the designer's idea, whether you're a left-brain user or a right brain user, how I struggled to use the left brain in the right brain industry.
Fact or fiction?
There is no doubt that you have heard it countless times that there is an old half of truth, half of which is fallacious. The theory that a person is left or right brain dominant can vary according to their own personality.
The left-brain dominant individual is thought to like analytic thinking, logic, and reasoning, while people who like to use the right brain are creative and focus on the good things in life, such as art and music.

In general, the importance and character of valuing this theory is thought to be too much to be a psychologist, but I am not. However, a person has a tendency to tend to these two patterns so many people, including myself, in this concept of the ring, so we will run it on this article.
Just knowing that the whole left/right brain thing is a useful structured discussion doesn't necessarily have scientific support (cognitive scientists say it's nonsense). So, if you are specializing in neuroscience, please forgive my slip of the tongue.
I use the right brain, right?
You don't know me, so I'll tell you about myself. I am a designer, musician and photographer. I think one of the core elements of my personality and character is a strong sense of beauty. This is who I am.
"I think one of the core elements of my personality and character is a strong sense of beauty." This is who I am. ”
Now, I ask you, do I use the left brain or the right brain? The answer here is obvious. We have quickly assumed in the charts in the previous section that I am a right brain person. In my career, my hobbies and pursuits have obviously been placed in these groups.
left Creative
You'll think that you're lucky to use the right brain of a jerk. Unfortunately, because of trusting me, I have struggled in this identity crisis, the best part of my life. It's not true.

To tell you the truth, I'd like to be a right brain user. I have stifled the opportunity to become some special hidden and artistically talented person. Despite the fact that I didn't.
uses the left side of the brain to design
That's why I claim to want to be a left-brain user, but all around me is the right brain activity? Maybe I'm a modeling designer, or maybe a designer is not fit to stay in a small space.
me • Problem solving
Ask yourself, I am an analytic thinker. Problem solving, language, puzzles, logic, that's what really interests me. Besides, they are something I'm good at.
"Every design is a problem to be solved, a mystery to be solved." ”
Interestingly, these are the skills needed to design a project. Each design is a problem to be solved, a mystery to be solved. Just read my article on this site, you can clearly see what I think.
Analysis to see how to solve some common design problems
I talk about design theory, I will communicate some simple and practical principles so that you can use it to improve your work, I analyze the critical design and put forward how to make them better. What I rarely or never do is start with a blank piece of paper and show you how amazing work has been created from my right brain.
I really like it when people call me "creative", just as the ego is wrapped in it, and I don't know if it's a completely truthful statement.
layout, Css,sass
I think that the design of a particular area tends to arouse my interest, and the idea is more and more meaningful. I like to talk about page layouts, math grids and common design patterns. It sounds left-brained, doesn't it?
Many of my articles are focused on layout and/or CSS
Also, my favorite part is CSS Web design. I like to write code to create the ridiculous nature of beautiful pictures. Real right brain users will use the idea of shutter. Even better, I like to use tools such as turning from sass to CSS, becoming a man-made programming language, and even more mathematics and logic.
or photography
The same parameters can be applied to all my creative businesses. Taking photography For example, for me, photography is all about fiddling with my camera. I like to create the challenge of a perfect exposure by playing the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, and the idea is to trim the image in a balanced way using a three-point method.
dirty, ugly and jealous
I have come to realize that this is the true nature of my love for creative adventure. Did I really find myself and that comfort in this perception? Of course, now I envy and resent those who are really creative? Absolutely.
"I often feel that I am a left-brain spy, hidden in an industry full of right brain thinking ..."
I often feel that I am a left-brain spy, hidden in a brain full of right thinking of the industry, hope will not be found. Some of you can break open Photoshop or pick up a pencil and create something absolutely amazing.
Some people are like Abduzeedo from Fabio Sasso like to let me always plan their talent and creativity. I see you can sketch out the crazy design in dribbble, I curse your name, covet your skill but evade my own question.
In reality, this is a typical case where the grass on the other side is always greener. I think (hopefully) that my constant envy of my peers is a very typical situation for all designers.
which is better?
So when it happens, what's better for the designer? If you can choose the left brain or the right brain, what would you be?
Here's the reason: this is a wrong question. You should ask, which one is you? The fact is that the design industry needs both.
"Creativity can be confusing, and analyzing and solving problems can be boring when the great design is actually created when they are together." ”
Some customers want you to consider the outer packing. They want to have a real idea, the original product to put them into the fame and fortune. Others are just looking for an attractive way to display some information. They don't want or need someone to reinvent the wheel, or try to introduce some major paradigm shifts. They just want a dang website.
Creativity can be confusing, and analyzing and solving problems can be boring when the great design really comes into being together.
You challenge and then try to ask for something that you are not, but to determine how best to utilize these skills is a successful designer.
, so what?
All this is meaningless intellectual activity? Or is that just one point? Don't worry, here we can get practical and applicable methods.
In view of my thoughts, actions, and interests, I am primarily a left-brain designer, and I can build a basic model or process for success (which in itself is a common thing in the left hemisphere). Here I came up with these:
Observe, absorb, and then mix. Our left-brain designer constantly observes everything around us from a design perspective. What works, what doesn't work and why. We notice trends, what is popular, how things are built (fonts, CSS effects, etc.).
All this happens with little intention. It still happened. We take it, absorb it and sort it out in the depths of our brain, "design inspiration." Then, when you need to design something, we can mix and transform all the original and useful ideas that were absorbed before.
the other side
Compare this to the work of the right brain. The right brain needs less input/output (or its input is more diverse, can be anything). They have the natural, innate ability to use only the brains that are provided to their shoulders, and they can create something amazing and unique.

An example of a right brain flow may be to eliminate all distractions, default to their network connections, to some percussion music and open an empty sketch book. This is not as concise as to "observe, absorb and remix", but through this point in the article I can see that my wisdom is weakening, so I want to have a rest.
How do you work best?
It doesn't matter whether the right brain or the left brain. If you're a designer, the odds are that you struggle to think about the innovation process by twice times the time. You're stuck, your mind is running out, the Van Gogh gland is closed, you don't know how to work.
In this case, think about how it works best. To do this, consider whether you are a very creative designer or analyst solution, and then use this information to approach your project and build a workflow that meets your specific needs.
Now that I know what you think, leave a message below and let us know the description that best suits you. Are you a gifted problem-solving person or a creative genius? I want to know!
