"Everyone talks about big data today, but it's hard to imagine a decade ago when people were unfamiliar with the concept," he said. "We've been working on data science since 10 years ago," Yong with a bit of pride. ”

In the fall of 2004, under the auspices of Yong, who was invited by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Center for Data Mining and knowledge management (CHIP) was formally established in the Zhongguancun campus of the Graduate School of CAs.

Prior to that, data mining and knowledge management Two directions in the international still is separate, Yong organized an academic meeting in time, invited experts to participate in two fields, the experts discussed the consensus: to combine the two to produce new innovative scientific research.

Taking into account the public perception at that time, at the time of the LU of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the name of the center became the "Data technology and Knowledge Economy Research Center (CHIP)".

At a Fragrant Hill Science conference organized by the Centre (raised) in June 2006, renowned experts from around the world agreed that data are the basis for known data analysis, data mining, knowledge discovery, knowledge management, customer relationship management, and so on. The center has been renamed the Center for Virtual economy and data science of CAS and continues to this day.

Over the years, the Center for Virtual economy and data science has provided a lot of decision-making basis for the national macro economy. The honorary director of the Centre, Cheng, wrote in 2009 on the next step in the reform of RMB exchange rate system-establishing a flexible dual target area of RMB exchange rate, and then using the theory of fictitious economy to write a report on the global financial crisis and China's countermeasures. In the 2014 publication of the "Internationalization of the renminbi" book, Cheng proposed in 10 years to achieve the basic goal of RMB internationalization and timetable recommendations.

The center has also made suggestions for local advice through solid research. The work has had a significant impact on the day-to-day economic activity of 1.3 billion Chinese people in commercial banks. As at May 31, 2010, the number of inquiries by the personal credit system reached 650 million times. The system cost 2 billion yuan a year, and realized the real sense of the financial engineering theory based on large data mining practice. Zhu Min, a former deputy governor of the People's Bank of China and now vice president of the International Monetary Fund, praised the resident's credit rating as "already above international standards".

At present, Yong team's original multi-objective optimization data mining model, has been successfully applied to finance, insurance, electricity and other fields of massive data or large data issues, NetEase, ICBC, China's financial Futures exchange, China Investment Company, China Reinsurance Group, the National Audit Office, a store, the Ministry of Commerce have become their "customers."

The efforts of the various teams have earned the center a total of more than 40 million dollars in funding, and incredibly, the center has only a dozen full-time researchers.

The center's scholars also won many awards: Cheng in 2014 received the Fudan Management Lifelong Achievement Award, Yong in 2009 won the Fudan Management Outstanding Contribution Award and the international multi-goal Decision society's highest award-Cantor Academic Award, 2013 also won the first prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award.

The center of the graduates of the birth of two national "Jie Qing" and a Ministry of Education Changjiang scholar. The key laboratory of data mining and knowledge management of CAS has been approved, and the laboratory will rely on the science of virtual economy and Data Science center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Science and Technology, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and the Institute of Computer and Control.

Yong, a laboratory director, believes the new platform is bound to further advance the centre's edge in related areas.

In recognition of their work, the Bridge, the American Academy of Engineering, invited Yong as editor-in-chief and published an academic album titled "Global Vision of Big Data" in its latest winter edition. Yong invited 14 eminent scholars from 9 countries and regions to write a discussion on the status, challenges and trends of large national data.

In Yong's view, big data now faces a number of major challenges: firstly, the paper studies the logical relationship between different manifestations of heterogeneous data to seek the general law of "multidimensional data table" based on heterogeneous data; Secondly, it explores the description method of large data complexity and uncertainty feature and the system modeling of large data. Third, The influence of data heterogeneity and decision heterogeneity on large data knowledge discovery and management decision is studied.

In the face of these challenges, Yong said: "Our center in the analysis and use of massive data research on the road has been gone for ten years, the future will continue to go on." ”
