Bitdefender said about 60% of the malicious attacks on the Facebook site came from third party applications. About 22% malware claims to be able to tell users who are browsing their personal information; 15% of malware says it can add points to social games such as farms, and 11% of apps offer false ads, and 7% of malware is online for "Super Mario", a handheld game.
Bitdefender data comes from the company's Safego Facebook privacy monitoring application, which scans malware that lurks in the user's personal account. Bitdefender, based in Romania, last month formally launched Safego Security software to provide users with features including security data, recent activity monitoring, and privacy settings. 14,000 Facebook users have downloaded the security app and scanned 17 million messages posted on the Facebook site.
But malware comes not only from Facebook apps. Other 5% of Facebook information also contains viruses such as koobface. As a result, users must be wary of suspicious information when they see it.
Reports say the data collected by Bitdefender are in line with other security companies. According to data collected by the Facebook security tool developed by Websense Network Security, 40% of Facebook status updates contain Web links, 10% of which contain junk information.
"Our security system protects the site from attack," Facebook said in a statement. The scale of our site has expanded one times from last year, but the scale of malicious attacks against Facebook users has not actually widened. Our site's security and safety system tools can help users filter online information and ensure that the number of users who are securely attacked is under 1%. ”
