A study by the NTT European-funded research shows that 81% of CIOs believe their ICT architecture is the biggest obstacle to the development of cloud computing applications.

A report on 300 CIOs and senior IT experts further shows that more than 58% of respondents believe that the complexity of current IT systems hinders their application of the cloud computing platform. In addition, the continued use of IT platforms continues to complicate the application of the cloud computing platform. Currently, 28% of respondents ' IT systems are still legacy IT systems.

Today, cloud computing is being used more as a strategic complement to existing IT services than a strategic ICT platform for companies. About Two-thirds (65%) of cloud-using companies are using only or less than three of the cloud platforms, with more than Two-thirds (68%) of respondents admitting they have used the cloud for less than two years.

Damian Skendrovic, vice president of the NTT European cloud service, said: "According to the study, we can infer that cloud technology is currently mainly in the testing, development phase, mainly in the form of software and services (SaaS) level." It leaders are still hesitant to incorporate their enterprise engine into the cloud. They worry that cloud providers may be less bullish on their complex legacy ICT systems and worry that migration may fail. ”

The study found that the majority of respondents believe that the enterprise to cloud computing the potential of a huge transition. 40% per cent said it would fully unleash the company's potential; nearly half of those surveyed say cloud technology will help them develop new markets.

This suggests that CIOs understand that cloud services can accelerate the coordinated development of enterprise and it strategies. The application of cloud services is imperative and, as a long-term goal, it remains a major concern for it leaders. More than half (59%) of respondents in the survey said the application of cloud computing was the most important. In addition, cloud computing support for "portable devices" and remote access to enterprise applications can attract the attention of IT leaders.

Skendrovic added: "The findings indicate that CIOs are looking for cloud solutions that apply to the real world." These solutions need to be combined with old, existing and legacy systems. Effective integration between the old and new is critical if CIOs are prepared to effectively restructure the IT infrastructure and achieve cost and benefit goals. Each enterprise has its own complex structure, and their CIO needs to use cloud technology to meet this complexity. CIOs want the system to be transparent and enable cloud service providers to manage and control effectively. Therefore, this requires the cloud service provider to prove that it can realize the virtualization and industrialization of various it platforms and services, and ensure its security. ”
