Sina Science and technology news Beijing time of September 6, Dell Asia-Pacific and Japan Sales Executive Director Peter Mass (Peter Marrs) disclosed in Thursday that the company plans to launch a tablet computer in China by the end of the year, indicating that the company intends to continue to compete with Apple, HP and Lenovo for the vast Chinese market. Mas did not disclose details about the product, but hinted at a meeting in Singapore. First, the reason for the rise of local shanzhai firms is that the product is being marketed exclusively to the Chinese market in the belief that consumers here crave low-cost tablets and are willing to sacrifice certain performance. Android tablets have been priced down to 60 dollars in the Chinese market. The use of Windows 8 touch-control devices has not yet reached Dell's expectations in the Chinese market, Mas said. But the ipad's share of the Chinese market is shrinking. According to IDC, the ipad accounted for only 28% of China's Tablet PC shipments in the second quarter, providing space for other manufacturers, especially in the lower-tier cities. If Chinese consumers are divided into high, medium and low levels at the level of wealth, middle-wealth consumers will spend 13.6% more on consumer electronics this year than they did last year, according to IDC, more than the wealthiest people. Dell launched the Streak Pro Android tablet on the Chinese market in July 2011, but has not been recognised by the market. But the new product is also in line with Dell's overall strategy to strengthen China's business. While analysts expect the double pressure on tablets and smartphones to shrink global PC sales this year, Dell still believes the PC market is expected to revive. Many Asian companies are still phasing out Windows XP, which will drive sales of new PCs, says Mas. Although the global PC market is depressed, China is expected to achieve a 3% growth this year, according to IHS Isuppli, a market research firm. Dell launched a series of latitude business notebooks with security features in August and pledged to vigorously develop the Asian market. Dell is at the top of the X86 server market in China, and the company is poised for significant development opportunities as companies such as Alibaba and Tencent (387.6,0.00,0.00%, the real-time market) have to deal with huge amounts of data.
