In a Monday statement, ebay said that the auction houses that cooperated with the company included the New York Doyle auction house, Freeman's, Garth auction house (Garth's Auction) and Swan Auction (Swann Auction Galleries). ebay says buyers can browse the auction catalogue before participating in an online auction, sign up for a real-time auction or bid ahead of the auction.

Ebay has mentioned this new real-time auction site this July. At the time, ebay said the company was working with Sotheby's, a New York auction house, to get popular art and collectibles online for auction. ebay says Sotheby's is also the "key tenant" of the company's art auction service.

ebay is struggling to attract new users, as the data leaked early this year and Google's (microblogging) adjustment algorithm affects the flow of ebay's Web site, forcing the company to find new ways to increase revenue. Last week, ebay announced it would split PayPal payments to make its slow-growing online auction sector an independent company.

Ebay said the company's art auction service would use an online auction technology from the invaluable company. The first auction of the ebay art auction site will take place on the eastern time of October 9, held by Swan auction. (Mowgli)
