To date, security and compliance issues remain a major cause of the cloud's impediment. In a recent survey released by Lieberman Software Security, results showed that nearly 48% of teams are concerned about government and legal interference before placing sensitive data in the cloud.
Lieberman Software Security Inc. released a survey of more than 300 IT professionals involved in a survey that shows that companies are hesitant to migrate sensitive data to the cloud because of concerns about government and legal interference. Government regulation, cloud legislation, and data security are becoming important factors that prevent business growth.
A survey from the Cloud Security Alliance shows that 88% of respondents are concerned that their sensitive data in the cloud may be lost or destroyed. As a result, over 86% did not store sensitive business data in the cloud and even 51% did not trust cloud storage at all, and they did not store any personal information. In fact, the organization is difficult to ensure that the data stored in the cloud will be fully safeguarded, but can not guarantee that their data protection policies through security audits or government regulatory inspection. While IT experts find it difficult for businesses to store data in the cloud for a number of reasons, the key issue revolve around government regulation, cloud legislation, and data security. IT managers fear that moving data to the cloud can be in jeopardy because they do not know if the data is properly protected and may impact their work and business.
But another issue is about cloud legislation, and IT managers do not want the government to look into their business data. If a government or official agency wants to see a company's data deployed in the cloud, the cloud service providers involved legally have the obligation to provide access. This means that there is only a very limited amount of privacy in the cloud environment. The report added that IT managers are well aware that hiding data within their own private network is an easy task.
Trend Micro also conducted a similar cloud security research, surveys show that more than half of the respondents believe that data security is the largest cloud "inhibitor." Another study from Symantec also found that businesses of all sizes are plagued by public cloud applications that corrupt data as rogue cloud backups, sophisticated recovery processes, and inefficient cloud storage programs.
