As expected, Apple released a series of new systems and services, such as iOS 8, in WWDC 2014, where HomeKit was the rumored smart home platform. The iphone, now upgraded to iOS 8, can remotely control smart home devices, such as smart locks, light bulbs or surveillance cameras. The operation is very simple, just to Siri said: I want to upload sleep, the lights will darken, the door will be locked. In fact, HomeKit sounds like a new feature of Siri, not a separate application, all based on speech control. Owners can be controlled by grouping smart home devices, such as electrical appliances or lamps that switch the entire floor at once. Apple will certify smart home devices to ensure compatibility. The initial partners include Philips (hue intelligent Light bulb), August (Smart Lock Intelligent Lock) and ihome, Honeywell, and a series of smart home equipment manufacturers. So what is the most attractive part of HomeKit? It is obviously a platform-formed device compatibility. The current smart home market is very confusing, and many vendors have their own standards, which means you need to download their own applications, and the lack of connectivity between devices. And Apple's launch of the HomeKit platform is clearly starting to clean up the mess, at least on the iphone, and you don't have to worry about the trouble anymore. The question remains whether Apple's solution will eventually be compatible with all devices. Some smart-home devices use unique connection forms, not just WiFi, which means they may not be compatible with the iphone. In addition, the need for a smart home Center (hub) to achieve data monitoring and transmission, is also a problem, but Apple has not given the answer. But still, we appreciate Apple's determination to connect all smart home devices. The smart home sector is likely to be another focus in Apple's future strategy, especially as the competition for the smart home sector has begun in the case of Google's takeover of Nest. And with the fierce competition, we also look forward to the home environment will be in the efforts of these giants, become more intelligent, convenient, interconnected.
