Sina Science and technology news Beijing time March 20 morning, the United States Record Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as "RIAA"), the latest data show that 2014 U.S. streaming media music services revenue for the first time exceeded CD sales revenue.

According to RIAA data, the U.S. streaming music revenue reached $1.87 billion in 2014, accounting for 27% of the music industry's revenue, while CD sales accounted for only 1.85 billion dollars, or 26.5%.

Digital music downloads are still the main source of music revenue in the United States, accounting for up to 37%. followed by the total sales receipts for all entity media, including CDs, vinyl discs and tapes (32%), and streaming music services accounted for 27%.

Overall, the U.S. music industry's total revenue in 2014 was $6.97 billion trillion, down 0.5% from 2013. The report shows that the U.S. music industry's income composition is undergoing major changes, streaming media music share, digital downloads and CD sales continue to decline. But one of the highlights of vintage music is the growth of vinyl albums: Last year's total sales of vinyl records reached 9.2 million, the highest since Nielsen began disclosing the figure in 1991, but only 6% of the revenue from real music sales.

While streaming music revenues are not enough to offset the decline in revenues across the music industry (which peaked at $15 billion in 1999), streaming music services did help offset the shrinking of digital music downloads. Streaming music revenue rose 2014 years, from $1.45 billion a year ago to $1.876 billion trillion, while digital music downloads fell 9.5% to $2.64 billion.

"Some people think that streaming music has had an impact on the health of the market, which makes sense." RIAA CEO Cally Sherman, Cary Sherman, said in a blog, "but the reality is that consumers have the right to decide, and that's the service they want." The entire music community must unite to coordinate the interests of fans, singers and record companies. (PEI)
