Lenovo Chairman Yang announced today that Lenovo's acquisition of IBM's x86 server business is expected to be completed by October 1. After the completion of the acquisition Lenovo will become the world's third largest x86 server manufacturers, and will significantly enhance their own enterprise service strength.
Some of the Lenovo acquisitions by IBM include System X, BladeCenter, Flex system blades/switches, x86 architecture Flex integration Systems, NeXtScale and iDataPlex servers, and related software, Blade Networking and its operational dimension. System z Mainframe, power System, storage System, Power Architecture Flex Server and Pureapplication application platform and Puredata devices are reserved by IBM.
The acquisition will help strengthen Lenovo's original think Server and the Think Cloud business, released 22nd this month, to enhance Lenovo's hardware and software capabilities in the corporate marketplace. The total amount of the acquisition is about $2.1 billion, of which 1.8 billion is paid in cash and about 280 million in shares. Upon completion, the IBM X86 server Business Global team will be merged into Lenovo Enterprise Service Group, and Adalio Sanchez, the original IBM x86 server business leader, will join Lenovo as senior vice president of enterprise-level systems.
