NetApp collaborated with the University of Melbourne's cloud computing and distributed Systems (clouds) labs to find ways to combine the research findings of the lab with the joint public cloud.

The Reg website learned that many of the company's senior staff had travelled to http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/14583.html > Australia to visit the lab last February. Now Professor Rajkumar Buyya, the head of the lab, said in an interview to the Reg website that the discussions focused on Aneka products of the lab's Manjrasoft commercial company and that the joint cloud functionality was highly valued by NetApp.

Aneka can implement cloud resource utilization across multiple cloud platforms, covering both private and public clouds. Aneka can also be used as a cloud agent and automate Low-cost cloud search and deployment, while locating the lowest latency cloud resources to ensure the best use experience for new customers of SaaS vendors.

Professor Buyya points out that the lab and Manjrasoft are currently working to add functionality to the Aneka product that defines a wide range of cloud service level agreements (SLA), so that cloud users will be able to detect whether the cloud they intend to use has the desired performance, and the results will be handled by the software. As a result, we will no longer have to worry about the effect of services being expected.

Buyya says NetApp is keen to talk about the new impact on SLAs and the existing capabilities of Aneka.

Why does NetApp have to work so aggressively with the lab?

NetApp is currently operating a virtualized center of excellence in Melbourne with a wide range of impacts and is leveraging highly virtualized storage systems to service many Australian local customers Telstra, SUNCOPR and Cenitex This also prompted the company to develop a secure multi-tenant mechanism for its IP. This work is quite closely related to the current research and development direction of the Cloud laboratory. Because the center of excellence and the laboratory are located in the same town, the two like-minded technicians can communicate at any time.

NetApp also maintains an interesting partnership with Amazon Web Services, or AWS, which is NetApp Private Storage. The collaborative content is to install NetApp's suite into the AWS Data Center, where its suite can take full advantage of the AWS Direct Connect service, designed to bring data streaming directly to the Amazon cloud Giant's server side without tolerating the performance loss caused by the public cloud routing mechanism. NetApp may have considered the option of allowing private storage to connect with several other cloud service providers based on the user's own cloud scheme, rather than relying on Amazon, the tree.
