Netease Technology News May 24, according to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics recently said the company will be from July 1, shut down for their mobile devices to provide music and e-book services. This move once again shows that Samsung is difficult to provide attractive applications.
The company did not explain why the two services were shut down, but said the company "strives to differentiate its services and increase customer value." A company spokesman said in an email that Samsung will provide its users with a variety of content options through their own and collaborative services. The move does not affect the company recently launched in the United States, "Milk" streaming music services.
The shutting down of these two services left the company's multimedia content store, SamsungHub, with only three elements: educational curriculums, videos and games. The company declined to say whether the remaining services would suffer the same fate.
Samsung launched the "Samsung Hub" because the company wanted to attract its customers with its own software. However, the company's approach did not get much attention, because customers can access through other channels and application developers similar services and content.
In March last year, Samsung considered the Samsung Hub as a service that "integrates" five types of content for marketing, including music, video, books, games and learning. The original intention of creating this store is driving more sales of Galaxy S4 smartphones. The phone comes preloaded with this platform.
However, the next generation Galaxy S5, the platform does not appear. Samsung spokesman said: "For a single application, our service is still valid, but no longer be provided through a single, bundled channels." The spokesman added that the use of Galaxy S4 smartphone "Samsung Hub "Existing users can continue to access the service.
South Korean users have special offers: Music and eBook Services will remain there. According to market research firm Gartner, in 2013, Samsung's share of South Korea's smartphone market was 66.1%. Apple is only 7.6%.
For the Korean company, having its own software content has been a big challenge as Samsung's experience is mainly in hardware. Industry watchers say Samsung may streamline its mobile application services to selectively focus on areas such as games. (Abby)
