Today, Sony released its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014), its sales revenue reached 21.139 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 6.1% per cent, operating profit of 1.474 billion U.S. dollars, compared to an increase of 760 million U.S. dollars.

It is noteworthy that Sony TV business in the third quarter of outstanding performance, its sales revenue reached 2.319 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 10.1% per cent, operating profit of 77 million U.S. dollars, reversing the same period last year, 42.58 million U.S. dollar losses. Sales of Sony's film and television business fell by 11.7% to $1.633 billion a year on a year-on-year decline, with operating profits falling to $20 million trillion.

The main reason for the increase in sales revenue is the positive effect of exchange rate, the significant growth of smartphone sales in mobile communications, the strong performance of image sensors in the component business and the significant growth of gaming and network services brought about by PS4.
