CMC, a global market research firm, published a report on Cross-border consumer electricity companies in Europe, reported May 26, with the rapid development of cross-border business-related suppliers in Europe as the online retail infrastructure and regulatory system gradually sound. In 2013, more than 25% of online shoppers in the European Union had cross-border purchases from other EU countries, which were higher in the entire European region.

According to the results of the survey, the UK is the most popular online shopper in Europe, followed by Germany and France. In 2013, Germany was one of the most active countries in both import and export business, and its cross-border commodity exports were among the most popular in the Nordic countries and France. In Germany, the destinations for online consumer Cross-border purchases are mainly in Britain, the United States and China.

Meanwhile, Germany's neighbour, Austria, has more than 70% online shoppers opting for cross-border purchases, much higher than the EU average.

The report notes that the UK has become one of the world's largest cross-border exporters of goods, thanks to the global availability of a number of globally renowned brands and English language. In terms of imports, UK online shoppers rarely shop from online retailers in other European countries, while the US, China and Hong Kong are the favourite cross-border destinations for UK online shoppers.

For other Western European countries, the cross-border purchases of French online shoppers were mainly in the UK, Germany and the United States. At the same time, 25% of French online stores offer global delivery services because of the high demand for French fashion and cosmetics brands worldwide.

In Italy, tourism, fashion and food are the main online retail outlets, while import deals are based on discounted airfares.

In addition, in Eastern Europe, Russia's cross-border online shopping presents a growing trend. In 2013, Russia's Cross-border retail imports increased by more than one times, with Russian users increasing three times-fold in the amount of traffic generated by the International Electricity Dealers ' website. More than 10% of the online shoppers in Poland are involved in cross-border Internet purchases. Turkey's 2013-year international electricity trader turnover reached more than 1 billion euros, an increase of one-third per cent year-on-year.
