Violin memory has become a recognized new force in the storage field. Violin memory, which sells high-end storage arrays using flash memory, has just ended the latest round of financing, getting $50 million trillion. This is the fourth violin memery in two years, which has also allowed the company, which is rumoured to be listed at the end of this year, to be worth $800 million trillion. Don Basile, chief executive of Violin Memory, said the company's valuation would be a billion of dollars if the IPO plan was to be realized.
This is not just because the storage sector is now moving towards a solid-state disk in the direction of replacing traditional hard drives, violin memory, thanks to its strategically-minded investors.
A recent investor is a software giant SAP,SAP mission critical ERP and database products have been deeply entrenched in large enterprises and can benefit from vionlin memory more cost-effective systems than traditional HDD and DRAM systems. There is also a new SAP HANA memory Analysis database, which is the core of SAP's big Data strategy. "To some extent, people see Hana as a big data technology," Basile says. It fits the core strategy we've been implementing since last year. ”
The core strategy pursued here is to build the "largest, fastest, highest-density" large data system for technologies such as Hana, Hadoop and NoSQL databases. Violin memory has worked with many vendors to eliminate I/O bottlenecks in Hadoop.
Among the many strategic investors, violin memory also relies heavily on Juniper NX, but the flash maker Toshiba may be the most important one. Violin memory has prepared ahead of time when other enterprise-class flash storage vendors must respond to consumer needs. Basile says violin memory has produced four generations of products because it knows what Toshiba can offer. As the only U.S. investment in violin memory and for years the only strategic technology investment, "if you do business with us, then you will also be Toshiba's business partner."
Of course, violin Memory's chances of a successful listing are not affected by Fusion-io, a competitor who sells solid-state components that can directly access the server and act as a high-performance cache layer, and fusion-io revenues have increased significantly.
As Basile explains, everyone involved in the flash drive is catching up to the trend of falling flash prices, with giants like EMC, Oracle and Hewlett-Packard entering the field.
