According to foreign media reports, social networking site Facebook announced in Monday that the virtual currency Facebook credits has finished testing today, and the company will promote Facebook credits in all its aspects. This means that all Facebook game developers must use credits as a payment system for virtual goods in the game. In fact, Facebook has asked game developers to use credits before July 1.

Facebook originally planned to announce the news in Monday noon in the Pacific, but TechCrunch, citing news sources, took the lead in reporting that Facebook notified game developers that it would force its own, official Facebook credits currency. In fact, the Facebook transition has already begun. Over the past year, Facebook has occasionally met with large game developers to ask them to use credits in the game.

According to Deb Liu, the credits product manager, in the credits test period, 150 game development companies used credits in 350 applications, representing more than 70% of all virtual goods traded on Facebook credits. By building credits into Facebook's "universal currency", Debu Liu said, it would improve the user experience.

Debu Liu said that at present gamers can use the credits in two ways: one is to exchange money in the game, and then buy virtual goods, one is to buy the virtual items in the game directly. Take Zynga's popular game CityVille For example, users can use credits to buy "City Cash" (CityVille virtual currency in the game) and then use city Cash to buy virtual items. But Facebook wants game developers to remove other currencies from the game, allowing users to trade directly through credits.

Facebook made the adjustment, probably for financial reasons, because Facebook was able to earn 30% of its sales through credits. Facebook executives had previously said that credits would not bring too much revenue to the company and that all profits would be invested in credits products.

Facebook believes that credits is good for both users and developers. If users use Money to buy different currencies each time they play a new game, they raise the threshold of the game, but using the same currency reduces a lot of trouble. Facebook can do its best to educate and promote the use of credits, so that everyone is accustomed to buying virtual goods with money. Zynga is reported to have paid about $30 million a month for using credits to Facebook.
