When organizing a seminar for a company, I always tell participants after some bedding: "All the present leaders raise their hands and I want to see who they are." Mostly, they feel nervous and there are Some hesitation They look around and see who will raise their hands. There are people giggle a few times, there is a loss of gaze and silence ... ... usually only one or two people slowly raised his hand. Then I would say, "Great! Welcome to this seminar!" Then I would ask other people: "Well, since you are not the leader, tell me what are you guys?" The response to me is generally silent And more dazed expression. Sometimes they say, "I did a job for a year," or "I have a low position." But that's not the answer I want to hear.
Next, I will ask them: "Can anyone see you? People around you can see your actions and hear what you say? If others can see you, raise your hands." At this moment, all Of course, will quickly raise his hand up. Then I would say, "If others see you, you are the leader. The others will see what you did, hear what you say, and they will think you know what they are doing. They will imitate you. Therefore, everyone is a leader, but some people do not know it. "
I mentioned this anecdote to illustrate the problem that in any company, all the participants are leaders. Only some of them are consciously led while others do not realize it - they do not know that their actions, words and attitudes have affected others. But the truth is that they really have an impact on others, but often they do not help, nor do they make a positive difference. So now you may just be right to ask yourself: Am I consciously leading? Or do I do it unconsciously?
By this time, I'll tell those who attended the seminar what Jack Welch, former CEO of GE, said. Welch said: "In each team, there are three kinds of people in each company at each seminar: leaders, prisoners and passers-by. The key task for managers is to keep the leader and bring the prisoners and passers-by Out. "Here, I would like to talk to you about the differences between the three kinds of people, and then let everyone decide how they want to spend their lives in what way.
prisoner. These people feel trapped in their lives, and they live as if they were survivors of a march of death, wounded but still walking. They want to do something else elsewhere, but they are "limited by the environment" and feel that they have no other way out. Their mantra is "I have no alternative but to stay here and I have no other choice." They may also be able to put themselves on chains and groan while walking. Prisoners complain most and blame most, but they do the least to positively influence what they need to revise around. Many of the prisoners are very enduring and even promoted to senior positions, but they regrettably and ironically they are just playing tactfully or avoiding the spotlight. Moreover, because others can see them, it is even more regrettable that others will imitate them and such a system will soon be copied. Do you feel familiar with this? People know such people?
Passenger. Passengers and prisoners have many differences. However, their long-term impact on the company is quite similar. In fact, passing only "to find happiness", will not really take the job seriously. They will also try to profit for themselves as much as possible, while trying not to do anything for others. They know how to fight for their benefit from the system as much as possible, and always seem to hope that they can get more. They work perfunctoryly, drifting - actively in idle state. They are good at "doing a superficial article, not making mistakes," and are always the last to take on more responsibility. If people can not see them, the situation will not be so bad. But the problem is that they are very prominent, so there may be many people who imitate them and their "passing" style. So, unfortunately, passing through has created another negative mode of leading others. However, in some companies, passers-by will be promoted over time.
leader. Leaders and passing or prisoners completely different. Leaders come here, they are always looking for opportunities to change the situation. They focus on helping and mentoring others, not just what they can get. They take full responsibility because they are happy to see that work is effectively carried out and are always prepared to take on more responsibility. They like to solve problems creatively and welcome suggestions from others. Leaders will "go one step further" for their own purposes, for the company's goals, and for supporting the goals of others. They are optimists, they see the cup is half full, not half empty. They believe in themselves and their worth, so they can easily leave room to listen to others, provide their own advice, or lend a helping hand. They will not prove anything for themselves. On the contrary, they have foresight and they will ask: "I want to know what we can achieve if we really think about it." Positive energy emanating from leaders attracts It is also reasonable that many people emulate them and adopt the same positive style as them.
Well, now we can ask ourselves:
• When did I behave like a prisoner before?
• When did you behave like a passenger?
• What can I do in the future to be the leader who works day and day and change everybody who comes into contact with me?
• How do you feel if you consciously assume that the leader has become the natural state of my life, thoughts and actions?
Everyone can even think of writing a sticky note, affixing it to his place of work, allowing himself to be opposed to it every day, so he can sign it like this:
Prisoners?
Passenger?
• Leader?
Now, pondering these three living conditions, which can forcefully indicate the direction of your life. Do not worry if you find yourself acting like a visitor or a prisoner. Just remember that your position is as a leader, and at the same time restart in such a gesture. We came here not to show perfection. We came here to make progress.
The reality is simple: in our life experience, we have most of the time with one of the three pairs of glasses. Try to see the world through "Leader's Glasses" in 30 days. I assure you that you no longer want to examine your life as a prisoner of passing. Any one of these three styles can lead others, but only one can change the world. Which pair of glasses would you choose? (Translator: Charlie)
