Cloud, private or public?

For cloud computing, the hottest issue now is not "what is cloud computing" but more likely to be a private, public debate. While interviewing Dell Consulting managing director Mr. Zhu Yuqiang and Dell's senior manager, Mr. Lei, on cloud computing in the petrochemical industry, journalists naturally threw the issue out.

Zhu said that for a specific business of cloud computing requirements, companies generally do not want to make too much investment, this time the public cloud must be more cost-effective. However, for large enterprises such as petrochemical industry, because of the data, security and quality of service, there are higher requirements, so the private cloud demand for enterprises must exist. More than this, because of the nature of the industry, private cloud can also make the business has a "comprehensive control" of the feeling, so in the sense of security, will be more practical.

Mr Lei also believes that the domestic private cloud is still a more realistic way of spreading, especially in the energy sector, including petrochemical power. He suggests that companies build private clouds based on the internal infrastructure of the enterprise. So when should enterprises develop the public cloud? He thinks this is still a need for a business model to explore the use of enterprises now public cloud, some premature. After the private cloud has been developed, the enterprise can consider how the future service will be done through the public cloud.

From Dell's understanding of the situation, the current foreign energy industry in the data center, will first consider the use of cloud computing resources platform to do, and then to see the enterprise's own internal data center, they now develop to this extent, it should be said that the model of cloud computing is more mature. The current energy industry in the country, whether electricity or petrochemical, is now involved in cloud computing is only in the process of standard-setting, this stage for the public cloud is still some early. Mr. LEI suggested that petrochemical companies do cloud computing, the most important thing is to clarify the idea of what the enterprise itself needs cloud to do, what is the purpose, through the cloud to solve what problems, to achieve "clear demand, small steps run."

The so-called small steps run, we need enterprises in the clear demand based on the pace and steps to accelerate action. Secondly, in the business to achieve "differential treatment" and "pilot promotion", "discrimination" means that enterprises should be cautious to see, not to say that all business is suitable for cloud computing. From a technical point of view, many businesses are also not suitable for virtualization, the same should be treated differently. "Pilot promotion" means that for those who have been built, very suitable for cloud computing solutions, enterprises can gradually to promote, but the scope of the beginning is not necessarily so big.
