Social networking site Facebook is fully aware of the extreme importance of patents and has been aggressively buying patents because of years of patent lawsuits, according to foreign media reports. Facebook has increased the pace of patent acquisitions recently, spurred by Yahoo's proprietary charges. With intellectual property experts, Facebook is likely to buy a patent next to Sony, one of the world's top ten patent holders, because Sony has a lot of patents to restrain Yahoo, and Sony is eager to raise cash by selling assets because of its own woes.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's chief executive, immediately countered Yahoo's claim that Facebook's social network had essentially violated Yahoo's intellectual property and sued Facebook for patent rights, according to other reports.
In just one months, Facebook snapped up more than 1400 patents, and in March it bought 750 patents from IBM and 650 in Monday.
By acquiring patents, Facebook has not only raised its position with Yahoo, but has amassed capital to deal with other companies that are willing to sue Facebook for Facebook listings.
Facebook's legal advisor, in a patent deal with Microsoft this week, said it was only a small part of the company's intellectual property investments, far from being a goal for Facebook.
So now the industry's focus is on who is going to buy a patent for Facebook next.
Erin-michael Gill, chief intellectual property analyst at the investment company MDB Capital, is likely to have a Michael Gille deal with Sony in the future. The latter, one of the world's top ten patent-holding companies, may be eager to sell their patents, given the reality of their difficulties.
It is understood that Jill is experienced, has predicted that Yahoo will terminate the IP lawsuit against Facebook.
Gill said the company was moving to a quick takeover from Facebook's patent strategy analysis. Facebook has been involved in a number of patent lawsuits over the past few years, fully aware of the importance of patents to a successful High-tech company, and has begun to buy some patents.
In the process, Facebook gained some key patents, such as the "multi-browser communications devices and methods" that were bought to HP in 2010. And a lawsuit against Yahoo in the run-up to the IPO forced Facebook to accelerate the pace of patent takeovers.
Gill said that Facebook's recent two major patent acquisitions were partly due to the fact that the patents were linked to Yahoo's operations and products, particularly the patents that Facebook bought Microsoft this week. The patents, which Microsoft purchased two weeks ago, are also able to track early innovations in some industries.
In fact, AOL's patents are bad for Yahoo. Facebook buys the patents on a number of important aspects such as instant messaging, web browsing, search and internet advertising. "Facebook needs to solve the problem with Yahoo, which is why it is rushing to acquire intellectual property related to Yahoo," Gill said. ”
