Mobile phone big screen steal traffic

Tencent Digital Inquiry (compiled: Zheng) The foreign NPD Investigation agency recently released a new survey report, which shows that the larger the screen, the greater the flow of cellular data generated by smart-phone devices. For example, a smartphone with a 4.5-inch or more-size screen generates 7.2GB of traffic (including Wi-Fi and cellular data totals) per month, a result that is 44% higher than the flow of smaller devices such as the iphone. In the US, the use of big-screen smartphones has grown to 28% in the three quarter of 2013, up 17% per cent year-on-year, according to NPD's latest estimate. This has also led to a 19% increase in data usage over the same period. Comparison of screen size flow consumption of smart phones (Tencent Science and technology map) according to the NPD survey of 4,500 consumers across the United States, social media, navigation, video, shopping and music applications are "big spenders" on large-screen handsets. The NPD study found that Facebook, Google (Weibo) maps, Youtube, Amazon, and Pandora Radio were the most widely used apps for big-screen mobile users. 80% of big-screen smartphone users are willing to watch video, while small-size smartphones are only 70% more likely to watch video. Even now, large-screen handsets account for only a small share of the market. But as users want to get more interactive experience when they use it, the big screen is rising and data traffic consumption will continue to increase. This is a win-win situation for equipment manufacturers and operators. But the future of big-screen smartphones will further occupy the mobile phone market, in the face of more and more data flow consumption will become operators need to face new problems.
