OneRiot was initially engaged in real-time search engine technology development. But the company recently switched its business to its real-time search engine business and focused on the profitability of the company's real-time advertising network. As early as 2009, OneRiot developed an advertising format known as "Riotwise". The Riotwise advertising service is able to place advertising content prominently in real-time information. OneRiot also released a self-help version of the Riotwise advertising tool.

TechCrunch points out that Wal-Mart decided to buy OneRiot, mainly in the latter's data mining technology. In a statement, Wal-Mart said OneRiot has developed technology to analyze social media signals so advertisers can target ads based on user interest.
Wal-Mart has been aggressively moving into social, mobile and target advertising markets for some time. Earlier this year, Wal-Mart announced a takeover of American social media company Kosmix. Wal-Mart did not disclose the exact amount of the deal, and AllThingsD, the Wall Street Journal's blog site, said the turnover was about $300 million trillion. Kosmix Technical Team has previously been assigned to Wal-Mart Laboratories, and mainly engaged in mobile, E-commerce and other related business technology development.
