As of 26th morning, PSN is still offline, and Xbox live services are limited.
"Lizard geek" does not hijack these services, but simply launches a large-scale distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that uses false requests to overload the server. Another hacker organization "The Finest geek" attempts to block the "Lizard Geek" distributed denial-of-service attacks, including blocking the source of the attack. But the latter also complained that Sony and Microsoft did not do well enough to protect their servers.
Sony and Microsoft are now trying to upgrade system security, but two companies have not confirmed that the network is due to distributed denial of service attacks. "Lizard Geek" recently received an encrypted interview with Winbeta, was asked about the attack's motives and mode of attack, details are as follows:
1. "Lizard Geek" initially attacked Sony PSN and Microsoft's Xbox Live just for fun, but they later found that it would force them to upgrade their network security;
2. The reason why "lizard geek" chose to launch an attack on Christmas Eve and at Christmastime was because it believed it would offend as many people as possible;
3. "Lizard Geek" had planned to attack Nintendo's network services, but it did not work, and it is not clear why.
4. Asked if the organization was considering attacking other targets, "lizard geek" said: "If we want to destroy the economy, we may attack the Nasdaq stock Exchange." "But that is not their purpose;
5. It is easier to attack Microsoft's Xbox Live, and Sony has apparently recently upgraded its security system. Sony may need a bit of time to resume service, but Microsoft is almost "worthless" in terms of security protection;
6. "Lizard Geek" has not confirmed when the attack will stop, claiming that the attack will continue until these companies "understand their security concerns".
"Lizard geek" last week threatened to launch an attack on Sony PSN and Microsoft's Xbox Live during Christmas.
It is also reported that "Lizard Geek" has launched an attack on the Internet anonymous service Tor project. Tor Project is one of the most popular and efficient cryptographic communications services that have been used by people such as Snowden Edward Snowden, an important tool for the opposition of Iran and Egypt. It is not clear that the "Lizard geek" attack on Tor Project.
